Tread lightly isn't all about not smushing the trees of the future either. One big thing to practice is not to leave your trash behind. Bottles, cans and other picnic wrappings. You wouldn't want people to dump in your yard.

    DON'T MAKE AN INDIAN CRY!!!!

Be the HOA of the trails. (sorry Chris)

Go into your venture knowing that your vehicle may get damaged. That way, you won't be suprised if it does.

Gizmo...I see you're in Miami. I'm not to familiar with the area personally but I'm thinking you might have to get away from the city to do some wheeling. There are more than enough folks here in the Florida area to try and hook with for a day trip somewhere.

Nothing shameful about asking for some guidance when wheeling. If you've cruised these threads you know what an assfull of goofing people get when they just "GO" for it.

Ask around, look on the SouthEast thread for a get together or post your own and try to arrange for a get together.

Asking for help is better than a hike looking for help.

If you are worried about dinging up your ride, use someone elses. I refer you to post #1, Picture #1 in the LandRover thread.

Since you seem sooo very new to the hobby of offroading, I'd highly recommend finding a local offroad club. Go out with people who know the ropes and can help you and teach you along the way. It'll be much safer that way.

Here's some other helpful tips to look at:

I have done a fair amount of off road driving in stock 4runners and Pathfinders over the years, nothing extreme, but I wouldn't suggest off raoding alone with a 2wd. You can blask through some sticky wet muck, ripp on sandy beach, etc in 2wd with no problems with good tires! But for real climbing, loose gravel or deep mud/snow you can't beat the traction of 4 wheels VS 2wd. Have fun, but be prepared and be carfeul!

Why would you want to take a new truck off roading? They get tore up. Get yourself a beater project 4x4.

I agree with wawireguy! Its hard to justify beating your near new daily driver off road. Get an old 4x4 that is bruised already to beat on. Or an ATV!

Gooo for it..I have a 09 prerunner and do my share of trailing at least once a week and i have no problem, prerunners are very reliable trucks but i guess it depends on what your going up against. I normally hit the soft sand and have never had a bad day, ive gotten stuck once but it was my rookie mistake and yea recovery gear is important I always have: 1.Tag alone 2. Shovel 3. Straps(nothing special) 4. Flash Light 5.Basic firstaid and if all else fails i resort the the last option MY CELLPHONE ahah
