I've got a somewhat weird request.

Last year I used Turo and rented a Model 3 for a day to make sure I wanted to buy it. TlDR: amazing car, but I couldn't stand the seating position.
Every year I make multiple thousand mile trips, so I need to be comfortable for the long haul.

This year, while waiting for my Ford Lemon Law to get taken care of, I've been researching the Tacoma hard. Even rented one from my dealer for a day, the problem is they only will give me 200 miles, so I either have to pay like 25 cents per mile extra, or just sit in a driveway and pretend to drive for hours.. (same story with tacomas on Turo) No thanks.

Reason for this thread: I would like more real seat time to decide. Anyone in the Everett, WA area willing to rent me their Gen3 Tacoma for a day? Sometime in the next couple weeks I'd like to take a trip to Spokane and grab some growlers of Cider. It's roughly 300 miles 1 way. It's either wait till it warms up and take my motorcycle, wimp out and take my Ford loaner (unless a miracle happens and I get my escape back that's been at the dealer for 8 months now).

Figured two birds/1 stone situation if someone's crazy enough to rent out their truck lol. (no towing, just US2 out and I90 back). Can figure out payment/collateral details on the longshot this happens haha.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Or if anyone works for Hertz or something and has a Tacoma in their fleet, would rather do that honestly.

I would rent mine for the day, unlimited miles only 35,500$. Curb service not a problem.

Enterprise has 2nd Gens occasionally in the northeast, might be worth calling around to a few WA locations

I'm in the Emerald CLub through work with National and have seen numerous 3rd gens around the country. I never pick them since I own one, but they do exist out there. Go to larger airports for sure.

Avis has a fleet of 3rd gens under the light truck category.

If I was in WA still, I'd totally be down for a cider run!

My local dealer rents them. I rented one a couple months ago. But 200 mile maximum. Long enough to know if it's terribad (model 3 seating position), but not long enough to find out if I can do actual road trips.
For reference, I drove nonstop from LA to Everett 2 weeks ago. Took 3 days (12+hrs day driving) driving down the coastal highway to LA, then 1 marathon day back up (22 hours ish). Thanks Ford for giving me a loaner F-150. Sorry to put 3k+ miles on it in 1 weekend lol. (not sorry)

Some dealerships allow you to pay $500 for a cool off period during the purchase process. So if you don't like it ~3 days you can bring it back no questions asked but they keep your $500. Not the best route probably, but it is another one to consider.

    Two things to consider:

-- The 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen through 2019 seating position can be improved easily:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...rs-25mm-1-lift-to-rear-of-front-seats.571318/

-- The 2020 Tacos will have a six-way power drivers seat.

So, what you feel on a drive is not what you are stuck with.

If you want to feel the spacers, I have them in the passenger seat for my wife.

    Sorry, no rental here. :D

FWIW I’ve done thousands of miles and it’s been very comfortable. My shortest trips are usually 200 miles but it’s pretty normal for me to do 400-500 miles or more in a day.

I’ve made the trip from eastern Iowa to Phoenix 3 times in my Tacoma, 1500 miles each way, usually in 2 days out and 2 back. First day is usually from here to somewhere near New Mexico which is 800-1000 miles depending on where I stop.

I’ve driven a lot of vehicles but it’s a short list of ones I can spend this amount of time in. I’m near 82,000 miles coming up on 2 years of ownership the end of April (and I’ve only done 3,000 miles since the first of the year)

Also like @tonered said, the 2020 Tacoma will be even more adjustable

I’m thinking we’ll still be selling spacers for the power seats.

Not sure insurance would cover in the event of an accident even if you did find someone willing to let you take their truck. And if i were the one that you could convince i would move into your house while you were gone as collateral.

My truck currently has about 100 miles of someone else driving it and that was only because we went on a long trip and I thought we might switch off so wanted them to get familiar with it before we got to a more populated area. Then I never needed to switch off lol

I drove from Colorado to Oregon and back and never once felt uncomfortable. I'm 6'3" and have a sunroof too. I do recline my seat a bit but nothing excessive.

My Oregon trip was with my daughter. She drove for about 2 hours and then I did all the rest of the driving. Like you, never felt the need and while my daughter is a fine driver she prefers to be the passenger.

I see them at RDU all the time. Just call the desks and request one if they have it. Get it for a few days, done.
