It really comes down too. Who has most money and time spend? Toyota or you?

I believe the main reason for 0W20 is fuel efficiency numbers. Unless you live in Siberia, I’m sure the 5W30 would be just fine, but why would you, unless you had to??

These are tough trucks, but they likely won’t run on chocolate milk and rocks like a Volvo.

Volvo 5-cyl is an epic motor. I drove a used, 180K 850 manual wagon for 70K miles before handing it off to my son. Redlined it all the time, foot to the floor, drove it like a rally car.

Punched a quarter-size hole through the sump on our rocky road, and didn't realize it until I heard valves clacking, 30 miles down the road. I figured the motor was toast, but patched the hole with aluminum plate and JB Weld, filled and changed the oil twice in 1000 miles, and it ran as good as ever.

Wife made me dump it when the suspension bushings started falling apart due to our 3/4 mile rocky driveway. My son picked some cherry V70 suspension parts from the junkyard, which lifted it 2", rode it hard for another 15K as a work vehicle, and traded it for a 4wd gen1 Tundra.

Maybe, maybe if you were in Phoenix or Yuma in the summer, but not in So Cal unless you are in El Centro or the Mojave.

I switched to 5w 30 Castrol MAGNATEC because it was cheap from samSa club . I live in El paso and am always climbing trans mountain and hot as balls. I average 19.7 mpg.

lemme see lets do some math.....48k on a pro and an 80.00 oil change is too expensive, something doesn't add up.

I like to run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my rigs. It’s hard to find and expensive in the 0w-20 weight. Sure..I can find plenty of other brands, cheaper, in the appropriate weight(s), but I like to run one oil in all my vehicles. I can get the Ultra Platinum in 5w-20 fairly easily and inexpensive.

Summit Racing is where I bought it, I’ll switch to Redline 0W20 soon, just don’t drive the truck nearly as much as the car.

Newer toyota motors are going to 0w16. It's all about emissions and fuel economy.

They can easily take 5w20 but as people mentioned, it's about warranty. Stick to factory specs.

Anyone who thinks oil is expensive to change oil regularly , shouldn't be owning a vehicle.
