Wow - great advice there - speaking of derp. You give gun owners a bad name.

If the speed limit is 55 and it starts to rain, conditions may mean it's time to use common sense and slow down or risk an accident. Why is this situation any different?

I have the right to discharge firearms on my property as well. I've got a lot of trees around me too. Yet I can see houses. Because of that, I don't. I don't want my neighbors to do that either. But according to wiscdave, I shouldn't give a rats ass, and just start unloading. Law says it's ok. Why bother to think for myself? But I do. Owning it means owning the responsibility.

And yeah - OP - don't root around in anyone's mailbox. In this situation, I'd walk and talk. A letter will just bring up questions. Might as well be there to answer them.

Wow, could this mislead someone. I wouldn't want this setup in my residential neighborhood.

Sorry, aren't all CQB houses(backstop) inside of an earthen berm? Would you want OP to shoot towards a tire backtop or a berm when there is a potential of hikers in the woods behind?

Mail boxes should be left alone.

I think tires are fine for bb-gun or pellet gun but not 100% if suitable for a firearm.

Sorry we're so off topic, OP. But I think these discussions can be good. The only way to clear up misinformation is to talk about it.

Is that wooded area open to other neighbors? I mean you may be a fantastic shot, and totally responsible and aware of where your bullets are going. But I can see neighbors freaking about that if it's in any way used as a public space (especially by kids), and now will be the backdrop to your backdrop (no matter how well built your backdrop is).

Out where I am, if you have 5 acres, you can set up a range. And a lot of people do. But a lot of people shouldn't. Because even if they meet the legal requirement, there are some spaces that just don't make for a safe enough shooting space.

TW is a pretty gun-friendly site. Lots of shooters on here. But they understand how important perceptions are too. And I think they're genuinely concerned that you're setting up a safe space, and they want details. Who knows? Maybe they can even help you improve upon your idea for a personal range. ;)

This is why I live in a neighborhood with a home owners association. Just the sound would drive me crazy, not to mention the safety concerns that others have brought up. Taking away your neighbor's rights to peace and quiet in their own home.

Well the "wanted by the cops" guy is easy enough to deal with. Just call the cops. :p And if the other guy's blasting JLo ... maybe he's not a guy at all. Mystery indeed.

You don't have to worry about guns there at all! Watch out for thugs practicing with their knives though.
