Can I run 255s on 9" wheels?

I currently have 265/70s but want to run a skinnier tire. Is it safe to run 255 on 9" wide wheel?

 

Look at the tire specs and it will have a listed width range on what's acceptable. My guess is that's too wide, and you'll risk popping a bead off road.

Your tire manuf. will list a min / optium / max set of wheel width numbers for a particular tire.

while others say 6.5-9"

All on the same tire. (Coopers)

 

What does Cooper say on their website? That's what I would go off of, not 3rd party sites.

 

Look at the Cooper site. Not others. It will only give one set of numbers.
