Yea, a 10" wide tire, on a 10" wheel looks kinda silly. 8" would be better. In fact you can use the factory wheels if you want to save some money.

You won't have any issues with a 31" tires height rubbing. The width might be an issue.

I'm running those exact tires on 15x8 -19 offset without issues. It only rubs SLIGHTLY on the front plastic guard... and by slightly, i mean very slightly that if i just push the guard back the rubbing will go away.

    I'm on stock suspension. 03' DCAB, 4x4 v6 TRD.

If your speedo is off, it's off at ALL speeds, not just 45. It would be off by a certain % based on the difference in circumference. I'm guessing the speedo reads too fast.

Are the wheels/tires in your OP pic the ones you're talking about?

Those wheels look like the stock 16" alloy wheels for the 2001+, and although I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure those never came in a 15" size, at least on the Tacoma. The older Tacomas came with 15's, but the alloys looked different. Pretty sure all the newer 1st gens (2001+) all had 16" wheels stock, even the steelies.

So sounds to me like who ever had it before you put some smaller tires with 15" wheels on it. If you go back "up" to a 31" or the 265/70, that's completely stock and you shouldn't have any problems assuming you get wheels with the stock backspacing/width.

If you're dying for aftermarket wheels, figure out what the stock offset is and go from there. Do a quick search and you'll find what the specs are for the stock wheels, and go form there. The farther you stray from the stock size/offset, the more likely you'll run into issues with interference or rubbing, even just with the stock 31" tire size.

Well, in the post you quoted, I literally said "8's are going to be better..."

So yeah, I think you should run 8's.

Because his stock tire size is supposedly 225/75-15, according to tire rack.

Why not just put the 265/70r16s on the wheels you have?

Also, you might want to look at the tire size you have on there now, those are 16" wheels. You might already have 265/70r16 size tires on there.

Prerunners most definitely came with 265/70r16s. Tirerack doesn't even list the 16" size as optional. You have to select the 4x4 for Tirerack to show the 16's.

OP said he has 245/70r15s and his speedo is off, which is only 0.2" off from the nominal diameter of the 225's you mention. That's hardly enough to notice if your speedo is off.

I figure the most likely scenario is it came stock with the same 265/70r16's that every other Pre-Runner I've ever seen came with, and someone put smaller tires/wheels on it.
