I recently purchased some land and would like to borrow a friends tractor and brush hog. He said it weighs 4117 pounds. I have a bone stock SR with V6. Can it handle that? It's only about a 25 minute drive but I don't want to damage my truck.

You’ll also have to take the trailer weight into account. How much does the trailer weigh?

You have to count the trailer weight as well. A trailer that can haul that weight is likely going to be another 1200-1800 pounds, so you are definitely on the upper end of the weight ratings.

The truck will likely do it, but go slow. At that weight I would not go over 60 MPH if at all possible, and I'd want trailer brakes. You'd have to install a brake controller for that.

It'd be easier to rent a truck for it.

Your owners manual may contain some tow info.

And does his number include the trailer?

Even if rated for it (probably not) I wouldn't try it without trailer brakes and a brake controller.

That much weight will try to push you right through stoplights without trailer brakes.

Does your Taco have a tow package (factory-installed) in it? If so the max tow capacity would be around 6500 lbs.
If not, max tow cap. will be around 3,500 lbs -- no go.

If your Taco has a tow package installed - in that case, your haul is possible depending on the circumstances.

If the grades are flat-to-mild and you can go on side roads, comfortably staying at 40-45 mph max, you can probably do it fine. (Assuming you have a correctly-rated and set-up trailer with its own brakes and a way to securely lash down the tractor/brush-hog unit.)

Probably not wise to try to get on a highway that needs >60-65 mph speeds, or to tow up/over any steep grades.

I don't remember if mine has the factory tow package or not. It does not have a trailer brake module. Sounds like I'll just have him bring it to me lol

I just verified with him that the 4100 is including the tractor and trailer. It's just a little kubota.

No 3rd gen has a trailer brake controller from the factory. I believed they all have the "tow package" after 2020, but I might be mistaken.

Edit: IIRC the V6s 2020+ should have the tow package. I always forget they made a 4 banger version.

So what's a way to check for tow package? Mines a 2021. It came with a receiver hitch from the factory.

The hitch may have identifiers to what class it is. It's likely fine, but its good to check stampings or sticker. The big issue is the brake controller.

If you want I can run the vin for you via private messages and see if it was the proper factory tow package. Almost all V6 3rd gens have proper packages but its good to check.

The problem with tractors will be the tongue weight. While it is easily possible to get a tractor of that size within the 650 pound tongue weight and still be safe, it is also very easy to guess incorrectly and overload one's rear suspension.

That, and to jump on everyone else's sentiment - I wouldn't tow heavier than 2000 pounds without trailer brakes.

I also vote rent a full size if one is inexperienced at pulling that exact combo.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I have a Kubota BX-2380 and a 6'x10' trailer that I tow with my '21 TRD OR AC auto.
Total weight of the trailer + tractor w/mower deck is about 3,500-4,000 lbs. My Taco can tow it and I have done so without a brake controller installed.
However, I wouldn't recommend doing it without the brake controller (and knowing how to adjust the controller). Panic stops are out of the question.
Since you have the V6 it's likely that it has the tow package (FWIW). You should be able to determine - does it have a hitch receiver and electrical outlets for a trailer?
If you've never towed a trailer with this kind of weight, don't make this your first experience.

Can your friend tow it. If so, I would ask him to do it. That way if anything would to happen on the road you don't get stuck in the middle with legal issues. Have you checked into just having someone do it for you. If you don't know if you can even tow it do you have any clue on how to operate it and operate it safely and efficiently. Someone that does it professionally will do a better job and in a lot less time. You also better make sure weather permits are required as well.

Agreed if you have never towed before, don't tow this.

If you have towed plenty (>3K lbs, at least 5-10 different times,) then this is manageable with some care & attention, and no steep hills.

    Good gravy.

Yes your truck can tow it. It's well within its rating. Give yourself extra time to get there and to stop and you will be fine.

I have a 2017 TRD. I haul an aluminum 2 horse slant with tac room. 1 horse on board with gear.Gross weight of trail and cargo/horse is approx.4600lbs. I turn on ECT, disable overdrive by switching to sport mode, blue sumo springs and I watch my trans temp with my Banks igauge. Definitely need a trailer brake, mine is drawtite. Works great but I wouldn't take it through the smokies.

Last weekend I towed a U-Haul 6x12 enclosed tandem axle trailer which I'm sure was well over 4,600 pounds total; my Tacoma easily made the 500(ish) mile trip from New Hampshire to Maryland. I wouldn't have any issues towing your trailer.
