Any chance you can rent a smaller trailer to haul your stuff? Last thing you want is that big old tail waggin' your medium sized dog.

Whatever you end up with, allow plenty of time -- you'll need to go slow & easy to stay safe and get there in one piece.

I did it from the Bay Area to Portland (~700 miles). 2.7l single cab 5 speed on 33’s. Fully loaded 6x12 uhaul and semi loaded camper shell. Semis were passing me on hills and through the mountains but I made it in 14ish hours. It wasn’t a lot of fun and I’m not sure I’d do it again.

I tried to take the 6x12 from NJ to Seattle and didn’t make it 200 miles into PA before we traded the trailer in for a bigger moving truck and the car hauler. I have the V6 and it was a rough go for the truck. If you think Chicago drivers are nuts, try a mix of NJ and NY drivers on I-80. $1,300 is quite a difference but sometimes the piece of mind is worth it.

If you are relocating for a job then see if they will give you a moving allowance to help ease the pain. The worst they will say is no, and I have never heard of anyone having a job offer revoked for asking for financial assistance in a move.

Not a direct comparison, but I used my 98 6lug, 2.7 with the 5 speed to move with the 6x12 trailer. 1 load every weekday and multiple loads on the weekend for 2weeks. Trailer and truck absolutely packed about 40 miles each way. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again

That trailer has brakes, which is important for towing. I towed a 6x12 from Silicon Valley up to Tahoe using the 2.7 It's not fast when climbing mountains, but it works. You'll be fine as long as you're not overloading it. Remember to balance the load with more weight (but not ALL weight 60/40) in the front of the trailer.

Give away the mattress, lean down on clothes, pack the tools in the bed and skip the U-Haul entirely.
