hi i have a 2015 toyota tacoma 2wd 5spd. I have a factory installed class 3 hitch. Its says its rated at 3500lbs toeing capacity.

Im looking at purchacing a 2016 white water retro 177 camper trailer. Its just 18' lomg and registered at 2800lbs dry weight.

I live in northern ontario canada, and i seem to be the only one in my area with a 2wd tacoma. So ...no one can really give me advise as to if i can tow this unit or not...

My question is...can i tow this no problem? Amd what can i do to my truck to make it easier without voiding my warantee?

    Thanks,

too close for my comfort, unless you are not concerned about longevity. Remember 2800 lbs is dry, not that you will be towing a full water tank etc. but, clothes food BEER, toys, it all adds up quick

Thanks. I also have a gmc sierra, so i know that will not have a problem, however its just a reg. Cab. My tacoma is an access cab, so a bit more storage....

when you load that camper with gear you'll be max out. You may be able to pull it short, flat trips but it wont be fun.
    sorry.

It might not be the springs that would be the problem, but rather an issue with engine power, and whether you have the tow package with the transmission cooler, oil cooler, etc. not to mention clutch life...

Use the full size, especially since you are in Canada. I would imagine it is not really flat up there... I understand the Taco has more cab space for storage but throw a tonneau cover or cap on the GMC or even get a few rubbermaid tubs to throw gear in. I had the similar Tacoma but regular cab and 4x4, I pulled a trailer close to that weight on flat ground and it worked the shit out of it.

Do your homework and run the numbers. Don't guess when it comes to towing. It's your safety and everyone else around you when towing. There are items every truck can add to do thing safely like WDH, but if the numbers aren't there they aren't there.

I can speak for towing at or near capacity myself. I pull a 16'5 ft., bass boat with my RC 4x4, Manual.

It gets the job done, but I don't travel that far to water and the interstate driving keeps the towing pretty basic.

However, I do have to truly "drive" the truck. And what I mean is, I have to anticipate hills and notice condensed traffic. Getting to the water in the morning is always great because no one is out on the roads! But in the afternoon it's very stressful driving back.

4 cylinders def don't have any of that stuff haha. They certainly weren't designed with towing in mind. But you are right with the clutch, it was hard on it when I pulled my trailer.

By the way, the rating on the hitch is related to what the hitch can safely handle, NOT what the truck can haul.

...Just an FYI on my experience buying a travel trailer. Ours was listed at 4980lbs but with options it came out to 5410lb....MAKE them weigh it for you. That way you are certain of weight before you start adding your things that you will take with you to go camping.

Be Aware that the tow capacity of the 2016 Tacoma is 6500LB and the Tow capacity of the 4Runner is around 5000LB. If you are looking for the right truck to tow your camper safely, do your home work before purchasing a truck, make sure you don't waste your time or money on the wrong truck...I have a 2013 Tacoma crew cab 4x4 and I had to do extensive and expensive upgrades to tow my 25' camper that weighs 6000LB loaded (4250LB dry). So please just do your home work. BTW, I'll be vacationing up in Ontario and Nova Scotia this year, can't wait. Good luck
