So basically my truck needs two shocks for inspection. Mine leaked out. I plan on doing full suspension upgrade eventually. My friend just took oem ones off his sport and i can have for free he said. I was going to paint them yellow and be done with it till i can afford Fox all around. Will they fit in trd off road coil and on the rear?

Friend has a 2020 trd sport
    I have a 2016 trd off road

Yeah they should fit just fine. Not sure if the coils will fit though.

Can you just pressure wash all the oil off your current shocks so they look fine? or do they actually test them?

They never removed them and tested them, he gave me a small list and said pop back in when thats done so we can confirm quickly and he will give me a pass. I would be using the coils on my TRD off road but it will be trd sport front strut and rear shock. Im assuming its pretty to easy to tell if they have been replaced when its up on a hoist and theres no weight on them so i doubt hosing them will work

I've never heard any report of the stock coil springs being different on any of the trims. The TRD Pro are painted red, but I'm not sure they have any other differences; not that it matters in your case. You can check if the part numbers are different on parts.toyota.com

Are you sure your shocks are bad? Does the truck oscillate up and down after hitting a bump?

Replacing shocks is a little tricky. You need a spring compressor or you can use one of the jack-based methods documented on youtube.

Yes, the sport shocks will work fine.
If your friend has the entire coilover, that will make you life easier (shocks with the springs installed), but either will work fine as a replacement.

They are not the same, but they will work.

Put all of them on. Should fit fine. Don't mix and match.

I am curious if you followed through with this and what you thought.

I am considering putting Sport Hitachis on the front and OR Bilisteins on the rear. My thought is for the front to have the planted feel that I am used to with the 2nd Gen Sport, and the rear to not bounce so harshly over bumps.
