I’m looking for a reliable and inexpensive garage to do a CMC on my 06 Tacoma in the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon. A garage I found which specializes in custom truck fab recommended a body mount relocation. They quoted me $340 for parts and labor. What are peoples thoughts on both on the relocating the mount vs the mount chop, as well as the price. It’s still the cheapest quote I’ve received.

I prefer and did a cab mount relocate only because I’ve seen other people get a cab mount chop and it wasn’t quite enough in the first place or they get bigger tires later and have to get it done again.

Can I ask what you paid for the relocate? $340 seems pretty good for the chop. Had one shop quote $500, and another over $1000, for the CHOP! WTF?

I paid $550 for the relocate labor. It was high in my opinion, but I didn’t really have a choice since they were my only option. I think $350 would be more reasonable for relocate labor.

OP said they were quoted $340 parts AND labor, seems reasonable

I cut mine myself and had a friend weld the plates for me later. It's super easy with a grinder.

Ah, with parts and labor I’d agree. That’s a fair price. All in in it cost me $700 in parts and labor for my relocate.

How long did you go before welding the plate
What size tires are you running? Did the relocate open up plenty of room?

I'm on 305/70/17 and got a cab mount chop for $120 including parts IN SOCAL. Had to trim a bit of the fender that is folded inside the wheel well as well as some of liner obviously.

Im running 315/75/16’s (34.6” tires). The relocate provides more than enough room. You’d have to tub the firewall before you’d ever rub the cab mount now.

If you don't mind, what's the name of the shop? $340 is a good price for the relocate, I might drive down from Seattle

Just a heads up. You can’t see them in the pics, but behind the factory cab mount are a couple of holes in the frame. I recommend having whoever is doing your relocate fill those in as well. This was my welders third set he’s done and has seen stress cracks form along those factory holes so he fills them in.

Good to know. How long have you had the relocate? Any issues? Would you advise against the relocate OR the chop for any reason?

I’ve had it about a month. Mostly off road miles. I’ve never seen one fail from being chopped or relocated, but that’s the only concern I’ve ever seen people voice up. I have zero concerns and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

If you’re planning on 35’s just do the relocate. I have a pretty aggressive CMC with 315/75/16s and still rub at full lock. Running a decent amount caster too
