Can Odometer be rolled back on 3rd gen?

Can the Odometer on a 3rd Gen Tacoma be rolled back ? I purchased a 2020 a few months ago, bought with 3774 miles, what makes me suspicious is the fact that the previous owner owned it for 1 year and 3 months and only put 3751 miles on the truck, I checked the Carfax but didn’t get much info due the the owner not taking it to shops for maintenance, also the tires it came with are not Original factory tires, it came with Michelins XLT, should I be worried ?I thought it was impossible to roll back miles on newer cars,Bought it from Carvana btw

I've had mine since November; only 2900 miles and KO2s. The pandemic is weird, dude.

 

They can’t be rolled back in the traditional sense, but there’s nothing stopping somebody from pulling an entire dash cluster from a wrecked vehicle with low mileage and plugging it in to a vehicle with higher mileage.

 

What would the prior owner or Carvana gain by rolling it back? It couldn't have been high enough in that short amount of time to make a meaningful difference to the sale price. Also, people are picky about tires and they could have been changed just out of preference. Nobody truly likes the tires that come stock on most Tacomas so I wouldn't fault them for swapping them out.

 

Of course you can roll back KMs on new cars.

It's pretty hard to do. And illegal if you get caught. Some people just don't drive much. My F150 was 2+ years old when I bougth it with 17,000 miles. My brother only has 5000 miles on his 2020 Ford Ranger.

You can check instrument clusters screws, if they were tempered with. But most of those guys use screwdrivers with rubber on them so you can’t tell anything.

 

People change the shit tires that come on Tacomas all the time. The facebook marketplace and craigslist are full of them with less than 500 miles.

I doubt the odometer has been tampered with.

Its illegal to tamper with odometers in the USA, not sure about Canada.

 

I mean... You could easily do 30k+ in that amount of time. Dropping it to 3k would definitely help the value.

Pandemic and probably an older gentlemen or somebody that works from home. My grandpa only put 2k miles on his car in the last 2.5 years. And yes, he still buys new tires

People change out the stock tires all the time because they suck lol

I would be more worried about how hosed you got buying a used tacoma from carvana lol. They ask crazy high prices on used tacomas.

 

Might if lost his job, or ditched it to cut cost. People who though they were safe financially might not have been ready for covid.
