I have an 07 with the temp/compass overhead display. I would like to obtain a Gentex mirror with these built-in, and I am wondering if anyone has used the pre-existing wiring to connect to one of these mirrors? It would be great if it is as simple as running a few wires to the pre-existing connectors and tapping into the wiring. If I can achieve this, I will be looking to replace the overhead compass with the extra pocket.

No you need the new sensor from the new trucks.

Bummer. I guess I'll stick with the old compass/temp display.

What kind of mirror are you referring to? Are you looking for temp on the mirror?

Since the temp & compass are already on the overhead display...you don't need them on the mirror.

My mirror has homelink & auto dimming. It's wired into the overhead display. The homelink gets constant power (I think they're tapped into the lights) and the auto-dimming is tapped into ignition power. You'll have to use a multimeter to test the wires. It's been a while....

I put an auto-dimming mirror in a while back, even posted pics on these forums showing which wires to tap :) I was hoping to put in a mirror that contains everything and replace the old temp/compass with the extra storage pocket. I know the Tacoma OEM temp/compass is a ticking time bomb that occasionally requires resoldering, so I was just looking for a way to be rid of it while retaining the features.

I finally got this done today. I can say with 100% certainty that you CAN use the factory installed probe on the Tacoma with a Gentex mirror if you have a 2007 truck, because that's what I just did. I believe this can be done with all trucks from years 2005-08. After that, the compass/temp was somehow connected to the A/C system and the probe is not compatible. For all of you guys with a compass/temp who would rather have the info displayed on your mirror, all of the wiring is there to make it happen. Here are the wires you will tap:

constant power: map light wire WITHOUT black stripe
ignition power: green wire from compass
ground: map light wire WITH black stripe
probe: grey and yellow wires from compass (if it doesn't work the first time you will see OC displayed and will need to swap them)

I haven't seen one of those. It sounds like it might work for you. If your mirror harness has probe wires, it's worth a shot!
