Can the Tailgate handle the weight of two motorcycles for extended periods??

    I know that if I were to get a double cab, then if I were to take two motorcycles (400lb each max) side by side the rear tires of each bike would be resting on the tailgate. Does anyone know if this would be possible and/or safe for an extended period of time (24 hours or more). I'd love to have 4 doors but if it's not doable then to bad i can do without it i guess.

    Bug shield, window visors, skid plate, rust proofing, tonneau cover, paint & upholstery protection, side step bars, navigation system.
    800 lbs is higher than the factory recommended weight, if I remember this right. Cargo weight is around 550 for the 2nd gen, I think. I recently saw bikes loaded backwards where the front tires rest on the tail gate. The front end being lighter should be easier on the tailgate.

    My tailgate is bowed a little bit from repeated loading and unloading of our dirt bikes. Its pretty sad that the tailgate is so weak.

    I wouldn't do it.

    A 4' bed is silly. If you are putting motorcycles in the back regulary than why are you getting it? Seriously though, what good is a 4' bed? Just get a 4Runner and a trailer

    2 into 1 lighter adapter!
    If you're set on a doublecab, you might look into a load extender. They'll need a receiver hitch to work, but it may be an option for you. I googled "bed/load extenders" and found a few (but won't mention any names here).

    Are you talking about dirt bikes? If so, two of them would only put about 200lb - 250lb on your tailgate.

    A 450 with all fluids / fuel only weighs about 235 lbs.

    Well we know that these tailgates and support a RIDICULOUS amount of weight without failing:

    x2 on those. They used to have them at Harbor Freight for $30, but I just searched and it looks like they don't carry them anymore.

    You'd have to shove some plywood or MDF under the tires onto the extender to make it work, tho, and that'd be REALLY ghetto...

    What is the weight distribution on your motorcycles? Does most of the weight rest on the rear? If so, how about setting them in backwards?

    A 4 door truck is useless really. It is just an open trunk sitting back there. I never understood why anyone buys one. They are not trucks.

    881 Front coils, Bilstien 5100's all the way front set to "0" Icon Dynamic's mini leafs in rear, stock tires.
    A little off topic but what do you use for a ramp to get the bike into the bed of the truck, I have a 4X8 harbor freight trailer( 4.80X 8 tires ) and that thing is to flimsy in my opinion to strap a bike on to, I have Kaw 900 that weights about 765 lbs the trailer is rated at 1000 lb but I would be scared to try and haul it on that trailer.
