I know some of my older 4Runners had it and my old 96 1st gen Tacoma had the ECT button for higher shift points. I don't know if the A340 automatic transmission changed for the 2nd gen trucks so it would be nice to have that feature for higher/firmer rpm shift points. I've been searching around but haven't found much info. It's probably just a circuit in the trans to turn on/off.

No, the 2nd gens have D 4 3 2 L 1st gens only have D 2 L so they have the ect button to “simulate” that missing 4 and 3 gear

To answer the OP. No you can not, its all computer programming.

    so much fail.

1st gens autos and 2nd gen i4 autos share the same 4 speed trans. etc button had nothing to do with "simulating a missing 3rd and 4th" gear on that trans. on the 2nd gen you can shift through all 4 of those gears directly with shiftier position and on the 1st gen you could do the same but with a combo of the OD OFF button and shifter position (L being 1st, 2 being 2nd, D with the OD OFF button switch on on the shifter = 3rd, D with OD OFF button off being 4th)

ETC power on the 1st gens kept the trans in a lower gear longer (allowing it to rev higher before shifting) and it made it downshift quicker. On the 2nd gens the computer is more sophisticated to sense a load and will adjust its shifting habits on the fly thus getting rid of the need for the ETC power button.

Bummer, the ect mode lets you stay in gear longer without having to use more gas pedal which is great for towing when you want to get up to speed. If the computer adjusts to your driving style, it won't hold the shift longer unless you give it more gas. It also seemed like the shift was firmer/faster with the ect which should make the trans last longer. I would guess there might be more line pressure with those shifts.

You buy reprogram kits for the A750f trans. And make it shift how ever you want.

If I'm using my truck to tow, which I do a lot, I'll use the shifter to manually shift it on steep hills if it's a heavier trailer being towed (~4,000 lbs+). It's a super easy fix for the problem. If it's a lighter trailer being towed it's a non-issue.

    "So much fail." Lmao
