parking between 2 cars in a typical store parking lot is a pain. i avoid that and park far away but if that's all there is for parking it is an effort to get it in the space.

DCLB has a pretty wide radius, but that's kinda expected. Just get good at backing into spaces, and you'll be good in any lot.

Check out the Honda Ridgeline and then decide on what you like. I thought I needed a little extra towing capacity.

I can actually agree with this, although I'm sure smitty you say you regret getting yours. I love mine personally but your statement is very much true. It has so lower cruising acceleration, but when you want it to go it definitely will.

I don't chime in much here, because I know my opinion is mine alone. That being said, I've been contemplating trading my 16 DCLB in on a short wheel base variant to make a build, and I have considered going back to the 2nd gen. I've only considered this due to the ability of putting all my equity from the truck into mods and accessories. BUT, everytime I am in the interior of a second gen, I get turned off. Even the base 3rd gens are better than Limited 2nd gens. (Once again, my opinion)
It is true, the 4.0 has somewhat better low end response but that comes at the cost of fuel economy. Coming from a 2.7l, I'm sure you would be happy with any 3rd gen powertrain. I love my 16 and I currently have a 17 DCSB Off-Road on order, but I can't really make up my mind in the end. I like them all.

    Negative, I wish. Haha.
I have a 17 on order to trade my 16 on, but it will not show until March unless my dealer can trade with another. But I've been looking around to see if any well priced 2nd gens show up. All the 2nd Gen prices are pretty healthy right now, so for a little bit more I think I'll be sticking with my order.

I have seen a few do this swap, what is the general advantage in going from a 16 to a 17 besides a fresher ride?

For me personally, when I got the truck I didn't plan to offroad as much as I have. So I got the DCLB Sport to haul my bike to the trails and go camping. For 2017 Canada can now get the TRD Off Road in DCSB and since I started off roading a lot this past year, I realized I wanted a shorter wheel base. To anyone else, trading a 16 to 17 for the same model wouldn't be worth it. But the way I see it, I'm paying to get my wheel base shortened and add a locker, and it's costing less than I expected.

Double Cab Short Bed TRD Offroad Automatic Trans in Grey, it's Canadian so it comes with towing package, but no Tech/Sunroof available.
No manual available in Canada for the Off Road Double Cab either. :(

Its funny cause I have a DCSB Manual on order cause we cannot get it in Access Cab Manual which I would have preferred.

    I've had both.

Interior: 3G is nicer than the 2G. I like the seat material better, the more modern dash layout, the Entune Premium is nicer than the 2G stereo (an aftermarket unit with something like CarPlay / Android Auto will beat both)

Exterior: Toss-Up...I liked how my 2G looked more, but that's simply because I did more to it

    Ride: Comparable...it's a truck

Motor: I liked the 2G more, the 3G is peaky and has a weird power delivery

Transmission: I was one of the few who disliked the 2G automatic, and the 3G automatic's failings are well documented. I got a 6MT and said GTFO to any transmission issues, once I got the TSB done to deal with the sticking in gear

Amenities: This is where the 3G shines, IMHO. With the Premium and Tech I've got a moonroof, heated seats, heated mirrors and nav. Outside of that I've also got integrated LED DRLs (nifty), a cargo lamp, the soft drop tailgate, the tailgate lock, etc, etc.

I wouldn't have traded my 2G for a 3G simply because I wanted a new truck, but since my hand was forced, I think I made the right decision. The driving experience is nicer on the 3G from an everyday usage standpoint.

    Maybe I'm in the minority.

    Gen 3 for sure.

    2017 Tacoma Dc OFF/Rd now.
2015 Chevy Colorado DC Z71 traded.
    2011 Tacoma DC OFF/Rd traded.

The only thing that's not known yet , is if 3rd gen will retain its value as much as 2nd gen.

A long time friend who is a service rep at my local dealership tells me the good used gen II's sell like hot cakes and they will deal nicely for a trade. I guess a visit to the dealer and a test drive will tell.

Well, how troublesome are the gen 3's actually? Are they anymore of a problematic than the gen 2's were? Generally people complain when they have issues but never post when they don't because they don't have a beef. That is why I posted this thread. And regarding why, I am retired and 67 years old and don't owe the world a cent. This will likely be my last vehicle purchase and I always opt for extended warranty. If the gen 3 is better that is one treat I would like to do.
