Has anyone done it? I know you have to use a hole cutter and not a drill to get thru the rubber surround but other then that, it would seem you have plenty of meat to actually screw in a zerk in the metal part of it. Has any company made anything like that before? Maybe it could be done while replacing it easier before installing it.

Plenty of pillow/block bearings with rubber surrounds already use the same system and have done so for decades so it's not like it's a new thing.

    Yeah.
I don't think it would be worth the trouble. The rubber surround will usually deteriorate before the bearing goes. If the bearing goes first, the rubber isn't far behind.

The bearings are sealed they don't let grease out and they won't let grease in. Guess you have never tried to drill a hole in a bearing it won't happen even it it did it would trash the bearing. And yes the bearing and the rubber part crap out about the same time. Hint NAPA has two bearing assemblies one is a good one the other is junk buy the one that has tabs to hold it up while replacing the bolts it also puts the bearing in the right perspective it is not centered in the pillow block.
