Can you order a Tacoma?

Perhaps this is a really dumb question, but my previous experience with Toyota was that you cannot order one and that Toyota just allocates cars based on what they think are the most common options/colors and you must find the vehicle you want or have your dealer locate it.

With other car companies, you just place a factory order and they build it for you. But given that the Tacoma is built in the US, can you place a traditional factory order?

I see people posting about placing orders, but I'm not sure if this is really placing an order with the factory, or are you just telling your dealership to keep an eye out for the vehicle you want?

just to give you an idea, my allocation request was approved, but the Kansas city region is only getting 32 Tacoma's, and guess what, they are going to fulfill allocation request from the big dogs in the region. my puny dealer was told maybe next month they might fill my request.

 

When I "Ordered" my 15 the dealer just looked to see when the next truck that fit my exact description was being built. They just had it allocated to their lot. I left a $500 deposit and 5 weeks later I got the call saying she had arrived.

I was able to go in last weekend and with a $500 deposit, sat down with the fleet mgr of my local dealer and secured the first 2016 TRD DCSB OR to be allocated to this dealership. Vehicle to be built 9/5. We went into the Toyota ordering system and modified the order and changed the color, viewed all the features it was slated to be built with and even added a few options at the same time. After he submitted the change, the system verified the changes were successful. Truck should be delivered on or around 9/20.

 

I want a white DCLB OR I don't know if that is a possible combination. Are these "orders" the way to facilitate that?

 

they aren't orders. You dealer asks for what you want and Toyota or the regional office sends them one when they can. That combo is possible in some regions, but we don't know where yet
