I just keep a scrap buckle around, sometimes I need to haul something heavy on the passenger seat.

This! Do you know how? I know my dealership would Not be willing to turn it off. NY state would not allow it for 1, and they just wouldn't anyway. I only take it to them if I absolutely have to.

if the buckle sensor is interconnected with the rest of the restraint system then it is a federal crime to tamper with it, then sell it later without repairing it

get the dam buckle extender and save yourself the potential legal hell

and your dog should have a tether harness to the seatbelt to prevent a pupperpeto

where in New York? I am in Halfmoon area. Come by if you like.
it isn’t a federal law violation to activate a vehicle option. I guess you are probably talking about hacking up a wiring harness.

Had mine turned off in tech stream. Still get the light but not the annoying sound. Also changed my auto turn signals from three to five.

Yes, I know how to physically remove the switch and it is not cutting wires - that does not work and brings up codes. However, Techstream or Carista should be your first choice. Please try them first.

I "HAVE" Techstream and it does not work on my 2021; others here have stated they got their dealer to disable the chimes in subsequent model years. I also purchased Carista with the intent of returning it if it also did not do the job - it didn't, and I returned it. In both Techstream and Carista the programming looked like it worked from within the programs but did not deactivate the noise. I do not know why it does not work on my vehicle, perhaps it's a thing for Colorado vehicles where I picked my vehicle up.

There are those on here who believe it is a Federal law you cannot change Safety features on your own vehicle - I believe this to not be true as I read quite a few some years ago. The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards FMVSS from NHTSA are incumbent upon the Manufactures and their representatives, i.e. the dealers, not on the end user. Other manufactures of aftermarket parts can also be held responsible for the FMVSS, it is my understanding. You can drive a car you have wrecked and not replace the airbags for example. Your individual States may have additional laws that would apply accordingly.

It sure is nice not to have the seatbelt chimes - peace and quiet, if only for a few seconds. Just did the switch removal several weeks ago. I also have a switch that deactivates the buzzer on the back of the instrument panel to deactivate all chimes coming from it, I don't use it all the time as I like to hear the turn signals. When I am four-wheeling I do not wish to hear any unexpected noises and turn as much off as possible.

Nope, not at all. You can sell a vehicle with no seatbelt chime just like you can sell a vehicle with rusty frame, worn brakes, and/or bald tires. Federal regs for new vehicle manufacturing don't apply to continued roadworthiness of your vehicle after sale. If your state has an annual safety inspection, as long as the inspection manual doesn't check for seatbelt chimes, there's nothing prohibiting you from disabling it.

I am, and the OP sounded like he wants to permanently disable the switch and if that is connected to the SRS it would not be a wise move

I buy the "bottle openers" on ebay that are shaped exactly like seatbelt buckles.
They fit the tacoma perfect as well as my other vehicles.
I have a hunting property and drive the tacoma all over it. In and out opening gates, moving tree limbs, putting out corn... And I hate my truck yelling at me to fasten my seatbelt.

You guys are driving around a super computer and still using gadgets to disable the seat belt gong? That's dangerous and you shouldn't be doing it.

You can get any number of OBD2 programmers to plug in and disable all the annoying gongs that just shouldn't be there.

Here's the stuff you can turn off on the 3rd gen Taco.

    https://carista.com/en/supported-cars/toyota/tacoma/3rd-gen

It takes all of 5 minutes to turn off the stupid gongs that do nothing but annoy you. The light is still on in the dash, and you should always wear your seatbelt.

You can get the OBD2 plug/adapter from Amazon or their site or wherever you prefer to shop.

And yes, the stealership could turn it off by checking a box if they wanted to, but they are assholes.

Yes the app works, yes it was easy, no it doesn't do any damage. Toyota literally has this as an OPTION. My Taco is a 2020 if it matters.

Shoot me a PM if you ever got out this way and I can plug you in if you are still have issues. A lot of the TIS, not sure of other programs, update and fix issues affecting certain models or years. I update often, can't hurt to try.

My dealership gets bitchy about any modifications or requests. Made sure to inform me that if I put in anything tied to the battery they would void my warrent. Bunch of BS, but I refuse to deal with them unless I have to.

Why would you even go to that dealer again? Find another dealer.
