Hi, I am wondering if the entire body is interchangeable between the 2X4 and 4X4 trucks? And if not, what do you have to modify to get them to fit.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

I can't see why it wouldn't fit, the hole in the floor for the shifter is prolly the same too,

That's what I thought. I would love to know if anyone else has done this. Thanks.

I have a buddy who rolled his 4x4 ranger and put a 2wd ranger cab on it. I would think you would be able to do the same with a tacoma.

Yes they are interchangeable. Cut the hole for the shifter, the front fenders are different 2wd vs. 4wd (they'll work, but stock flairs won't fit) then your good to go.

I know the earlier Tacoma front end was different between 2wd & 4wd. Don't know if the body mounts are the same. Not sure about your 01.

Yep the bodies are the same. Everything will line up fine. My buddy has a body shop we've use 2wd cabs on 4wd's several times.

@Blackdawg swapped from a 4x4 to a 4x2 body, IIRC there were a couple of little things but it was close.

Body mounts will be the same. Every pretty much lines up. It'll be even easier if you are swapping two bodies with the same tranny. I put an auto tranny 4banger 2wd onto a manual v6 frame. Some things are different. But not drastically. Everything that was just needed drilled out. The tranny tunnel will need a bit modified too for the tcase shifter.

As stated the fenders are an issue too. The 2wd ones are flat with no flair. Stock 4x4 ones have about a 1.5"-2" flair. But they will work.
