I would put in an aftermarket one if I could connect and use the factory microphone instead of having to hang a new one. I just saw an adapter thing the other day someone makes here but I haven’t looked much beyond that.

Hardware won't support it. For one thing, CarPlay requires WiFi. Pretty sure pre-2020 Entune systems don't have that.

Not saying it couldn't be retrofitted somehow, but then that's not a software solution.

carplay does not require WiFi. The first release of carplay was wired only, WiFi was just recently added

Thats true. Required for wireless. It baffles me that the 2020 entune is wired carplay only.

You need a Tinder account. Guaranteed to get Carplay on a date.
But, if you are looking for Apple Carplay, there are aftermarket systems available, just depends on how much you want to spend.

Seems more fitting for me then Entune. That doesn't seem much better. Please expand on your thoughts.

not that surprising. Most OEMs don’t yet have wireless carplay

No chance...that would dilute the 2020 appeal and no way Toyota is gonna let that happen.

It’s easy to pull the software off these units, and actually quite easy to uncompile most of it. what’s hard is putting a modified version back. No one (to my knowledge) has broken the encryption yet, so putting any firmware that’s not specifically signed for the unit is impossible without being able to circumvent that check. So putting firmware designed for entune V2 back on a V2 unit is easy, putting entune V3 on a V2 unit will not work, not unless Toyota use the same encryption keys and checks, which I very much doubt.

Someone already posted the connections on the back of the V3 unit, just about every connector looks completely different. Still I bet you could make a conversation harness, but it won’t be plug n play.

I like Apple Carplay. I have it in my F150. It would be nice to have it in my wife’s Highlander for the Waze app, but all in all I really haven’t had any issues with Entune.

It's said to be a different electrical architecture (whatever that means).

Guess I'll have to buy one of those slick Chinese HUs on eBay that works 70% of the time...

Maybe someday we'll get a hack.

Why not just get a more functional aftermarket unit for much cheaper?

Not that I know about and your probably right, would be cheaper to get one from someone that is upgrading their system to aftermarket
