It's funny you get all indignant about "taking orders" You've failed to notice the most important point-You won't end up in situations where you have to interact with cops by managing your self. Your great education should afford you the common sense to avoid drawing the attention of cops.

I've never gotten hassled by a cop for any reason without deserving it....Speeding and one car accident. Any other time I've spoken with a cop it was because I called them or because I'm being polite to another human being.

Should you make choices that draw the attention of police for being illegal- Then you obey them because that's what 1) the way the laws are written- And cops don't write law- they enforce them. You DO vote for the folks who write law AND 2) because it affords you the best shot at a peaceful outcome. Argue with someone in authority and even if you are right you'll probably lose. That's at work, at home, out in public- That's just the way it gos. If they do something illegal or misinterpret a law- That's what courts are for.

Ill say that mentality is absolute arrogance! Why? Because you are a citizen that is held to the laws passed in your community and the police/LEO's have authority to uphold the laws.

You need to get off your high horse if 1, you assume a LEO is less educated than you and 2, because you make more money then they do doesn't give you any extra privilege.

I'm glad we dont get to vote who upholds the laws , or ...nod wink , some people would vote in a bunch like minded wannabe law breakers.
And yes , even the smartest SHALL be commanded and will obey the law. I saw a shipyard worker who thought he was smarter and need not obey a marine during reactor install, pompous ass was in the puddle with an m-16 at his head. So those who say the wont follow a command due to intellectual prowess ,end up at the bottom at some point.
The alternative is Daudio saying, because he (thinks) he is smarter and richer, he shall be allowed to get away with anything. Daudio,I hope you were trolling with your comment.

The main story and reading some of this just tells me that on a basic level not all but most police are not out to "protect and serve " but seek and destroy. With that I will say I think being an officer of the law these days would be a tough job.

See you are in fact a dirtbag criminal who wont obey the law... I have proven my point. You do not have the option to disobey lawful commands. If you do police have the obligation to escalate force to gain compliance. Like sitting your butt on the curb once you refuse. If you resist further they will take you down, resist further get pepper sprayed and get charges filed on you. and your excuse "I dont want to obey the law becasue of XYZ" wont cut it.

I have a degree, graduated Magna Cum Laude, got straight A's in every class for 3.5 years, was the valdictorian of my police academy, also while top shooter of my academy. Im no knuckle dragger. I opt to talk people into cuffs about 99% of the time... but I will ALWAYS smash a window on an appearant drunk who wont open the door.

A lot of good reading on this web page. Anyone who does not want to get their rights trampled all over should read this.

When the cops says stop that means...

Great article from a lawyer here, longish but excellent. It you don't want to read the whole thing, the summary is the bicyclists were fine in ignoring the cop's orders to stop because they had not done anything wrong. The cop issuing the command was not giving a "lawful" order because he had no justification to give it in the first place.

    http://www.bicycling.com/news/advocacy/when-cop-says-stop

Now, I would have likely pulled over out of respect to the law but then again, maybe not if I felt the cop was being a jerk.

It does not surprise me to come into this thread and see other cops supporting these dirt bags cops. Just because you are a dirt bag with a badge and a gun does not mean you are above the law and all your actions are lawful.

Sounds like your a dirt bag cop whom has ego and control issues and has to have a badge and a gun to validate his self.It dosnt matter what kind of schooling or degrees you have if your a dirt bag control freak, like most police.By the way instead of just smashing windows out like a delinquent have you ever opted to ask the person if they are ok and trying the door handle first.Oh never mind its simply "seek and destroy" right. People we do have more rights than they think,we need to learn them so that these unlawful dirt bag cops get put into place and get some counseling on there issues. They are supposed to protect and serve, and to all the police officers maybe you should remember who is paying your check and just because you do have a badge and a gun dosnt give you the rightto act like an asshole.

No one here has said cops are always right...but if your choice is to protect your rights by disobedience or let a cop be a dick and then take it to court- Which makes more sense?
Ignoring/fighting with a cop, risking injuries all the way around and then going to court anyways and being on the defensive or letting them make themselves look like an idiot when you take a citation to court???

That is an easy choice to me- Let them be all big and bad and stand there an say "Yes sir" "No sir" "Thank you Officer- What is your badge number and name again??" and then walk away. It's like insurance-If I get in an accident it'll pay to get my medical care and new car- but I'd rather not get into an accident so I'm not hurt and have my car now.

LMAO- So typical. You are SOO much of a greater enlightened genius than I. You'll force a situation and end up in hand cuffs or injured to make a point....Good for you. But guess what- You aren't going to change the situation you are in and you'll have a mess to deal with afterwards.

Me- 1) I'll avoid the situations and 2) Should I end up there-I'll "be a sheep" (aka-avoid getting into a fight which won't end well) and take it to court to be sorted out. There is a significant difference between following just to follow and using common sense.

No, you are saying that cops are always right by stating to not stand up for our rights or you will be beat down.I choose to stand up and protect my rights against disobedient cops who clearly have a chip on there shoulders for what ever reason. I have questioned officers on there name and badge number and was told( are you giving me probable cause, why are you being confrontational and argumentative, when all I did was ask a question. So asking questions I guess makes you confrontational, argumentative and committing criminal acts. Well I guess if standing up for your rights in an obedient manner makes you a criminal, then I,ve picked my side.

Speaking from experience. Im a officer in NJ and just had this happen. Went to a house for a disturbance and was confronted by an out of control 25 year old male. He also had family members in the house who said nothing about him being a diabetic. After getting him under control I could tell there was something else wrong. However, he did seem to be intoxicated and was very combative. So those of you who have never been in a situation like this cannot really have an opinion. Just saying.

Probably not...BUT he has a badge and gun which gives him the right to tase and beat and kick any human being within the state borders of New Jersey for any reason him and his cop buddies can fabricate!
