    Seriously, a couple of thoughts.....

The new truck is nicer, quieter, and has way more power than the truck it replaced. The power band is higher, but if you can't accept that, then move on. If you don't fit in this truck, maybe move on. Don't expect the transmission to change significantly, it's just how it's designed, you want it to go, you got to really tell it. It moves when told to though.

Seriously, you might be ready for a Tundra.

Me, I came from having a hot rod and wasn't expecting much. This truck is quiet, it can tow a little, it's comfy, it's got way more tech than my last vehicles..... I'm pretty happy with it.

Again, I don’t care for gas if I got a truck. You can’t expect great MPG out of a truck. I understand some people do but it really leaves me confused why people complain about MPG when you purchased a new truck on a lot where they have vehicles that will get 30+MPG or better get, the 4 cyl taco. That’s of course my opinion and we all know that’s worth nothing here.

Buy the SSP, from reviews everyone has been happy with it fixing the transmission issue. Should drive transmission wise like the 2nd with a bit more power plus all the updated Tech.

Maybe because they don't want to toss a dirty greasy engine, animal carcass, muddy camping gear, wet fishing gear in the back of a car. Trucks are going to have to become more efficient.... we should expect it. Nothing wrong with that either.

    1. Driving easy does not equal better mpg. This power plant does not appreciate lugging low rpms.
    2. Driving under 70mph ALWAYS equals better mpg.
    3. ECT on OFTEN results in better mpg.

If you are chasing mpg in this truck, you will hate driving it. If you are happy with 18 mpg average and drive with a peppy right foot, you will love this truck.

Well Toyota disagrees with you. Hence the reason they've designed the engine/transmission the way it is. With the new engine and its less torque and higher MPGs they know they will gain more customers than they will lose.

I’m not trying to dis in Toyota at all, I love my Tacoma I’m simply saying that MPG shouldn’t be really considered a factor because with HP and Torque, you’re gonna get low numbers. Love my truck just wish it had a little more guts down below 3k!

1 and 2 are contradictory statements.
And I drive a stick, so I don't have to worry about a stupid ECT button.

    I'm saying, fuel savings wise, there's a big difference between 3000rpm and 2000rpm. I'm not expecting 45mpgs, but I don't want 10 either.

You're preaching to the wrong hombre regardless...

Just here to call bullshit on OP. My cousin who is 6'6 sat in my moonroof 3rd gen yesterday and didn't hit his head, so your 6'1 ass is TRYING to hit it, if you managed. I'm a solid 6 feet and have plenty of room. Yes there is more space if you don't have it for sure, but you had to be trying. Sounds like another fucking idiot thread to trash 3rd gen. Go get a nissan frontier.

You obviously didn't even read my first post or any other for that matter. I mentioned several times, no other trucks even appeal to me. I'm most likely to hang onto what I have. As for someone who's 6'6 to not have the headliner interfere, they have to be sitting with their head in the sunroof cut out, because I definitely hit at 6'1.

I've been driving toyota trucks continuously since 1986 and when my son needed a truck to get ready to go off to school, I made it a perfect opportunity to uprade to a larger platform from my well maintained 04.

At first I was sure I was going to buy a 15 longbed sport but I was on the fence between 2nd and 3rd gen when I was shopping in 2016. I drove plenty of 15s and 16s, many times back to back to back again until I was sure. Drove a few manuals and shortbeds, comparing features, amenities, what's carried over and what's changed until I knew for sure what I wanted. Read everything i could about both 2nd and 3rd gen so I knew what to look for trying to decide whether to go tried and true technology or take a gamble on the new truck.

I spent three months driving a lot of trucks until I knew which model really made me happy and that's what I went home with.

    Recommend you do the same.

It sure would have been nice if Toyota had given us an option. Offering the 4L for work truck applications would have been nice. I would have bought the gen 3 for sure. And no... I don’t want a tundra so don’t even go there. My ‘13 does everything I ask it to. Just wish it had the interior of the Gen3.

An option that you may or may not of thought of. Get the TRD Pro. All the goodies that you are wanting, but without the sunroof.

That is an option. I hadn't planned on spending quite that much, but it is a possibility.
