You’re at a stop sign of a busy highway with a heavy trailer load. You’re trying to cross but the breaks in traffic are small. There is a small break coming up and to cross you better get your load moving!
The 4L is much better at that then the 3.5L. That’s what I appreciate in my truck.

I think he meant a video of a 4.0L equipped Tacoma outpulling a 3.5L equipped Tacoma off the line.
I'd like to see that too. I call 2nd Gen-uflexion on that one.

I believe you are referring to the 1.0 lb-ft of torque advantage you've got. Why that's enough to almost lift a burrito to your mouth! That's sure going to make a HUUUGE difference off the line, I'm sure your statement is pretty safe.

Still, video proof...always a crowd pleaser.

Really? The truck can barely motivate itself off the line let alone an additional 6000 lbs. do you honestly believe you have only 1 lbft of torque less than the 4L? You must think that peak torque numbers are reflected through the entire rpm range.

Do you have any experience with a Gen 3 towing the same loads you do with a Gen 2?

Without an actual seat of the pants (or video proof) example, then your claim is a mute point.

    Why do you even bother?
Who are you trying to impress?
Why do I have a strong hatred for SPAM right now, I've never hated SPAM?

When I test drove the 2016. I did not get the impression that is would be a good tow vehicle. Maybe I’m wrong.

Just because you are whatever height doesn’t mean that people the same height have the same dimensions. I am 5’9”. I have stubby legs and a long body. When seated in the truck I am as tall or taller than people that are 6’+. While my wife and I are the same height due to my legs I sit closer to the wheel but lean my seat back further. She sits further back due to leg length but sits straight up comparatively. I can’t drive with her setup and she can’t drive with mine. Same height. Different seat setups.

Thanks for playing, take care and drive safe.

Just kidding sorta, but you did just shoot yourself in the foot, imo.

I would be curious what 0-30 looks like.

Based on feel, I would assume the 4.0 is faster. But it could just be in the head.

I would say they are really close. The whole point is the 3.5 has more power, just in a slightly different rpm range. It's not like the 4.0 had gobs of torque at 1000 rpm. It doesn't. Once you put a few miles on the 3.5 it has adequate power for the vehicle. Not stellar, like a Hellcat, but adequate. My 4.0 had adequate power.
I live in the mountains and we have quite a few long, fairly steep pulls on the interstate around here. While I have a manual, I can go up every one of them at 70 mph in 6th gear. Some are 7% grade for a few miles. I would think that the automatic version would shift up but you won't have to go 5000 rpm to pull those hills either.

Those are not exactly accurate because they are not the same model. They should both be DCORs for example or both be AC Sports.

The Gen2 is a great tow vehicle within its limits but you are welcome to your opinions.

The 4.0 does indeed have gobs of torque at 1500 rpm but lacks the high range like the 3.5.
Even though the two engines are of the same family, they are two different animals. They both have their merits and shortcomings. I’m glad everyone is happy with the 3.5 in the Tacoma. When I test drove the ‘16, I was not impressed with the bottom end so I didn’t buy one. I am however happy with my ‘13. It works well for my application so... everyone have a great day.
