I'm 6'-2" no problem with sunroof, only thing legs hit steering wheel getting in, with it tilted all the way up. Love the Gen 3, not much different then 2012 Gen 2.

Gen 3 may not be for you this time around. Nothing wrong with that. Have you considered a Tundra?
Have mine a year and two months and concur with you on the trans shifting issues. Had the TSB done and it did improve, but for me it still feels underpowered. I may be switching to something else as I now do a lot more towing.

It does, but make 1 less Ft Lb of Torque all at higher RPMs, plus a few extra hundred pounds of weight, there is definitely an adjustment period coming from the 2nd.

I do understand the whole research thing But the fact that you are looking for opinions to make You feel better on your future purchase(if any) says alot...

I hate to be that guy but have you consider other vehicles? I think you should.

I am only 5'-10" and fit fine with the Sunroof, but I could see some taller guys needing some more headroom.

Tundra would he be a little too big in the garage. I only tow a 3,500lb dump trailer for projects, so I don't really need anything that big.

I'm fine if the TSB improves, but I pulled out on a road where the speed limit was 45 thinking I really cut it too close, because it took so long to get up to speed. I would hope the TSB changes pretty drastically. Unfortunately therest no way for me to test that prior to purchasing.

So, you are looking at an 18, and there is already a TSB out to improve its shifting?

I sat in the Colorado and ZR2, Ridgeline and Frontier at the auto show. My family basically buys GM vehicles exclusively. They all have problems. They come home nice and tight, gadgets galore, but get loose and rattle in no time. I don't want a 2 year old vehicle that sounds like it's falling apart. None of the other vehicles interest me really.

Sound like you need to make some sacrifices if you want a third gen, if not time to go back to mod table.

I would have thought the 18s would have had all the tsb built into the truck, at this point it's been a few years of all this shifting issues, not sure I would get an auto Taco if they are still sending them from the factory needing more programming.

There is power there but you really have to lay into the pedal to get to it, you have to change your driving style from the 05, go back for another test drive or better yet get an overnight test drive.

I think I'm going to have to ask for an overnight test drive. I appreciate the suggestion.

If that is the case, then you have a winner. As you know All vehicles got issues, its just a matter of what issues you are willing to deal with...i really enjoyed my Ridgeline it was Perfect for All my needs, however i saw my sport(manual) and it was Love at 1st sight. To the point that i was willing to part with the Ridge...btw i dont do Any of the off road thing but like i said a manual truck was my #1 priority....the rest is cake.

Edit...yea my Ridge was a 2010 (traded it for a '14) gen 1....now the new mini van look Hell Now..that is a kick in the nutz...

I felt like a dork, lol. I can't get over the minivan looks either. The older ones weren't too bad. If they were to redesign, I would honestly consider. But right now, I couldn't see myself going that way.

Keep your 05 Taco for truck duties, since it has a lot more life in it, an buy a "creature comfortable" (Toyota) sports vehicle for the fun stuff.

Or just keep the Taco a few more years until the all electric Taco rolls out in a few years. That truck will have lots of "pickup".

My wife has had 3 turbo vehicles over the years. Almost all had reliability issues. And when I would read forums on the vehicles, it made it even more clear I wouldn't want to deal with a turbo past warranty.

Why I traded my 15 to 18, I got tired that my 15 had the exact same interior as my 05.

    Basically :
Manual > Auto in 3rd gen
    Auto > Manual 2nd gen

Interior is way nicer and comfortable than in my 2nd gen, ride quality is better, it's a big improvement in every direction I must admit.
Keep your second gen if you don't want to drive manual, but do not buy 3rd gen with auto, it's a disaster...

I would rate it like this 3rd gen MT > 2nd Gen AT > 3rd Gend AT > 2nd gen MT.
