Not what I am saying about size...a 1/2 ton isn't that much harder to fit into places than a Tacoma can. Gotta remember I used to drive a truck like this. You'd be surprised where I could get it into. And that was back in PA where it is really tight compared to us out here in the West. Shoot, I have clients who daily their CCLB F250's out here...getting around is super easy.

yeah that is his name! Thanks...getting old and the memory has faded a bit. ha ha!

They have hinted at a hybrid by 2025. That kinda gets me excited.

This is what I was afraid of. Are there any more 3rd Geners that feel this way?

If I wanted a pure truck, I would get a F350 4WD dually diesel. Will do absolutely everything heavy you can ever ask out of a pickup and do it well. But, that's like using a sledge hammer on a finishing nail in most day to day applications. The Tacoma is a finishing hammer. If I need a sledge I will go rent one.

    Ha ha!

Was hot for a Ford Transit there a while...hung out on those forums, but just read. Really too bad they don't have factory 4WD. Keep on thinking how much utilitarian a van is vs a truck. That is another thread though! ;)

...and another LOL!. My wife is a professor...so she has to deal with them all day long. The stories she comes home with! The teachers have to take classes to learn how to deal with their heightened emotional state. Have to walk on eggshells around them. I dunno, I was raised by "Boy! just git-r-done! Or you're gittin' a foot in yer ass!" How times have changed....

All personal preference. People daily drive their Powerwagons. Yes, I *could* do it, but I'd hate it. But it just depends on your environment and level of tolerance.

Looking at the specs, the 3rd Gen is 5 inches narrower and 19 inches shorter than a fullsize crewcab. But those few inches do make a big difference. Fullsize trucks are just a bear to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Note that the 1st Gen is also "only" 5 inches narrower and 10" shorter than the 3rd Gen. It will be noticeable for sure, but as I've said, more manageable than a fullsize. :)

Going by that method of thinking, it will never stop. Soon, you'll be in an F550, because, well, it's not THAT much bigger than an F250 w/ 8' bed. :D

Point is, I do like compact trucks. That doesn't exist in the US. Until the Ranger comes along and wow's us, Tacoma is the best, smallest truck in the US.

Not totally out of the question. Might be a good chance I will retire (early) here in a couple years...I do like the Tacoma (even though it sounds like I don't)...wonder if it will enough for the retirement truck...that whole getting a camper or TT and hitting the road thing is the back of my mind.

Or do I want to stay small and "make it work".

Yeah...we discussed on getting car over on Expo for a daily...think we both were considering a Subaru Forester and/or similar. To me that would be even a better daily than a Tacoma, then of course we came to the realization that the mpg's aren't all that much better than a Tacoma, and having a bed is awfully nice.

A car for my daily isn't totally off the table for me, and just keep the truck as beater camp/bike-hauler/dump-runner/foul winter weather...having a 60 mile round trip commute in truck that only gets "ok" mileage doesn't make a whole lot of sense. $35K buys a $20K car, and $15K left over for repairs on the ol beater truck.

That the Gen3 would be a weak tow vehicle. That’s what I understood.
I am very happy how my truck tows and wouldn’t want something less. Unfortunately when I test drove, I had no load to hook up to for testing.

It's not like you'll be towing with an anemic 2.7L or something ( :D that was for @stun gun ). If your Tacoma tows fine now, you'll be just fine with the 3.5L.

Oh, didn't get the connection. Clutch?? I thought we settled this already! You don't want a car. You will be miserable driving it. You will then hate going to work. Which will mean less work. Which will mean prolonged retirement date.

Just get a new(er) Taco. Great thing about a Tacoma is, you're not taking a big risk. If you don't like it or it doesn't meet your needs, sell it in a couple of years for top dollar. You will also get top dollar for your Tacoma as well. Win win.

Well that philosophy obviously does not pertain to buying a vehicle...for you at least.

Just kidding, but you do write volumes on the subject of the pluses and minuses of many different vehicles, in the 3rd gen forum of TW.

I can only offer my perspective on your search- there never was and never will be a "perfect" vehicle.

But you keep looking, because I have been wrong before....lol.

    Skoal!

I’m so sick of these videos! They are not realistic of what trucks are used for. I.E. racing up a mountain at 60 mph. I get it. The 3.5 has more power at the high end and can go/pull faster.
It’s the other end of the rpm range that has more value to me. It’s getting it moving up steep inclines and over uneven ground at low rpm. Yes there is 4L but you can’t use that on hard dry surface. I don’t think some of you understand or have experience towing and maneuvering heavy loads. Once you have, you’d have an appreciation for power at the bottom.
Trucks aren’t always going 60 mph.

I do, and that is why when I had to tow and maneuver heavy loads, I had a proper fullsize truck. 4.0/3.5 V6's are a joke compared to a proper V8 (or 3.5 Ecoboost). You're looking in the wrong segment.

All this bragging about the towing capabilities of a 4 liter V6 make my V8 laugh.

I came from a JK Wrangler and that is the 3.6, Tacoma still has more power, better reliability, doesn't bounce around as much and stuff (comfortable), and now I even have a stereo that has Bluetooth, a touch screen and things like that. I am amazed by the Tacoma, I think more people just need to get a Jeep Wrangler and daily drive that for a little bit, then they will love the Tacoma, and make sure it is a soft top so when you unzip a window you spend 10 minutes trying to zip it back on and go through a strong man competition at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Jeep, the Tacoma is just better at a daily driver, I plan on buying an older Jeep and using it just for beach days and off-roading where I don't care if something breaks. The Tacoma will be used for fun off-roading just not as hard core, camping and things like that.

Why hello there Mr. Dangle. I was wondering where you have been. Hope you are well. Please keep in mind I’m talking apples and apples. Have you been able to copy what I did in my video with your truck? I’d love to see that and it would shut me up.
