    There you go!
Sounds like you found the perfect solution to your dilemma, and as an added bonus it won't loose any more value from your purchase price as its already lost all it will.
But you might want to insure it for the $35k you put into it or check what a fully restored one might sell at auction for and insure it accordingly.

And as for the Ford being #numero uno, there's a little more to that story that's not common knowledge to the general public.
One being, Ford is very aggressive in the fleet sales department. They have outbid GM for years for our fleet bussiness and we only buy GM as a special purpose vehicle, or a truck equipped with special equipment or specs.

They are good (Ford) trucks, good service by the dealer, but for my personal use, I prefer TOYOTA. Chevy is not bad either in comparison, same as Ford but they're not into fleet sales as Ford is.

Ford is smarter than GM in that way, and other ways too, as all fleet equipment is in need of maintenance, and abuse (by operators) is not covered under warranty, so they get that additional revenue.

Moreover, when the vehicles are sold at auction to the general public, they get repaired!! Imagine that!
And a lot of parts are dealer only type parts.

But that's a whole other subject and we need to be on the OP subject that has gone offroad, no pun intended lol!

    Best of luck!
    Cheers!

No. I have not tried. My 6 liter V8 didn't do burnouts either though, so nothing new for me.

As for apples to apples, any load your 4 liter can pull, the 3.5 will pull just fine. I get your point about preference of power being down low and I actually agree with you. Where we are running into problems is the idea that the 4 liter is somehow sooo much more powerful than the 3.5 down low. Is it? My FJ felt more powerful down low, but that's just using the butt Dyno. Every dyno chart I've seen posted here shows differently. I still think the real issue is the throttle mapping, not the motor. The OVTune thread has showed this.

I will say, as I was moving my trailer today I thought of you lol. But it was raining. And that wouldn't count.

Yep! thought people would put two and 2 together. Avatar picture is a clutch..."SwollenGoat" is a Clutch song, the band name is where the Expo handle came from, link to the song is my sig.

Some think I am troll...but I don't think my sarcasm goes over too well on here, the way it it does on Expo or the dirt bike forums...oh well, I have been called worse. :D

Well shoot, I already hate going to work, commuting effin sucks! What the vehicle is isn't going to change that...counting the days until I get to "maybe" retire. Yeah we went over that whole cost of ownership thing of car vs Taco...

Anyways....yeah my wife says just get a Tacoma, maybe I am getting too set in my ways...like the old one better than the new one. Too bad I can't buy a brand new 1st Gen...wouldn't even think twice. Friend of mine had an 80's Trooper which he just kept on fixing, finally broke down a bought a brand new Trooper (this was back in '02). The brandy new Trooper sat mostly unused for 5 years...because he like the 80's Trooper better...one day the old beater's engine gave up the ghost, finally gave in and started driving the other one.

Mang, if I could afford it...I wold have FJ Co. build me a Land Cruiser Ute with a modern engine and call it good. As I don't give a shit about safety and computer nannying. But dang! those aren't cheap.

    https://www.fj.co/

When I was young...used to spend money like no tomorrow...now I drive myself (and everyone else) nuts finding excuses not to buy anything. :D

All of these forums are the same, bunch of knuckleheads hashing the same thing over and over. Go on a dirt bike forum, and those guys have been arguing over what oil to use for years! How many times have you repeatedly complained how many pages these silly thread rants go? Yan know what I mean, we're all nutters. one way or another. ;) I know I am effin nuts!

Yeah there is never a perfect vehicle...and there is the problem...on one hand I am looking for the perfect one and on the other I am fed up with vehicles in general. It is like work, I like my job, yet hate going to work...

Used to not post on here at all, only read about how to fix things. Originally came over to the 3rd Gen section because I wanted info on it when it was new, then stuck around because it seems this section is the most active...and I like to bullshit for entertainment value. Believe half of the people that post in here, are here purely for the shit show. *raising hand* can you imagine how boring this place would be if everyone stayed on topic and didn't argue? It would disappear...TW needs jackasses arguing over a bunch non-sense.

    Yeah, that is pretty obvious....lol

    Just keep what you have.

That 2023 all electric Tacoma is going to be really badass. Well worth the wait imo.

    Swollengoat, I have it!

    Get a horse

    It's perfect for you!

    No odd shifting issues.
    Won't cost you $35k.
It going to be a 4xhoof.
It's got a good solid 1HP to the hooves, but can run all day.
It's eco friendly and runs on just grass and water.

And it solves everything else that is holding you up as well.

You will maintain the VERY nostalgic approach to old school transportation.
You can make your commute more interesting by going through yards rather than dealing with snarled traffic.
You can ditch the need to haul, tow or even own a dirt bike, as you can just ride the horse on the same trails.
You don't have to worry about tight parking spaces, or parking spaces at all for that matter. Find a tree to tie up to.

You are a troll. Let's talk even more about wishful thinking of buying a "new" 1st gen Tacoma! It's never gonna happen man. Ever. Posting about it won't make it happen.
This thread is about convincing someone to buy a 3rd gen. We all have tried, but you just counter with the same tired argument about size, power, lack of efficiency and cost.
We have all listed all the things we like about the 3rd gen but you just talk about the good old days and old vehicles being great. Newsflash... They are not great compared to today's vehicles. Not even good. Not even fair.
Your first gen will lose to a 3rd gen in:
    Towing
    Any speed race
    Handling
    A crash
    Comfort
    Interior space
    Convenience features

Your first gen will beat the 3rd gen in:
    Fitting between two rocks
    Simplicity

That's it. That Hilux you look at out your window? It rides like a covered wagon. It's way underpowered. I had basically the same thing in the late 80's when I was in my 20's. It' saving grace was it was as dependable as today's trucks, which was miles ahead of the competition back then. As a matter of fact, the suspension was so stiff that I had to lock in the hubs to get out of wet grass on level ground one time! Don't get me started on manual hubs when it gets cold and you carry around vice grips to turn the hubs...

Old stuff is not better stuff. There is a saying that describes how you think: "The older it gets the better it was." Well I had all the old crap you covet. It sucked then and it sucks now compared to the new stuff.

In another thread. I had made a comment about this happening and I was not believed. I said if I got enough likes that I would provide a video showing. So you see I was coerced into it.
