You come to a third gen forum, disparage the third gen, then complain when we defend it?

What the...what the fuck. Am I going crazy here?

Well, some of you guys won't admit it has flaws. The platform is how old now, going on 14 years???...and they haven't worked out all the kinks yet?

Then again there are seemingly endless threads of owners complaining about the little things, when you bring those up...people get huffy.

I can't help it if you some of guys can't joke around a little. But we do live in the age of the easily offended.

There have not really been too many issues with 3rd Gens, pretty much everything has been addressed thru Recalls or TSBs. Some guys still complain about the Drivetrain Characteristics but once you adjust your driving style it's fine.

Those that speak up about flaws in their trucks are the ones that have trucks with the flaws. It does not represent the entire fleet by any stretch.
This is a forum of folks interested in the Tacoma from all generations, but does not represent the quantity of owners world wide by any stretch either.

When there is no issue with their truck, what do folks do with that? Go on the forum and complain about not having any issues?

    Here is what you do:

Go through the 3rd Gen forums and take count of the folks that have specifically stated that their 3rd Gen has a problem. Write these down.

    Now...

Go through the 3rd Gen forums and take count of the folks that don't actually own a 3rd Gen, but make it a point to share all of the flaws in it.

    Now...

Get out your calculator (or smart phone) and do the math.

After that fun and exciting adventure, go for a drive and personally interview as many 3rd Gen owners you come across in parking lots, side streets, coffee shops, camp grounds, forest trails, sand dunes, desert trails, rock piles, ski resorts, off road accessories stores, malls, and anywhere else Tacomas tend to be.
    Ask them about these flaws.

If they go into a rant about all of the flaws in the 3rd Gen, ask them what their TW name is. Then cross reference that with your lists.

Report back here with your findings.

Ha ha...now that is funny! Be careful...some might think you're being a troll.

Some may of missed it, but I asked earlier...is it really the truck? Or is overly sensitive owners that are new to trucks. I see an awful lot of people coming from the sport sedan/hot hatch crowd, then complain that their new truck is too truck like.

Where I think they drive like a car. Which is why I started buying them. Weren't as brutal as the 60's-70's trucks I grew up driving.

I was reading somewhere about 3rd Gen sales and the Tacoma had a large repeat buyer number, it was something like 78%, so basically 3 out of 4 buyers are previous Tacoma owners.

Seriously, your jokes are not really funny. Every. Single. Thing. has flaws. Our trucks. Ourselves. Here we talk about our trucks. The good and the bad. I'm pretty sure none of us in this thread have ever went over to the 1st gen sub forum and "joked" about their generation of trucks. I personally have no need or desire and I'm sure these other guys don't either.
We now know you are not going to buy a truck. Any truck. You are just passing time screwing with the people who DID buy a $35K truck. Enjoying the reactions, maybe smiling a bit as you read. Definitely jealous.
Pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one. Find a hobby man.

    This.

He doesn't "understand" how anybody could buy a 3rd gen. Translation: I don't like them. And when we try to explain why WE like them he tells us to stop getting defensive and repeats the same thing. He doesn't want his mind changed. He wants to stir the pot.

    That is trolling.

There's no reason for him to be here.

Good thing I am not a comedian! :)

Actually you're more than welcome to go to the 1st gen forum and bring up it flaws, as I mentioned I would agree with you. It is underpowered, gets horrible gas mileage given its size, the frame rust issue (mine is clean but I take good care of it) having to replace the the timing belt every 90K miles is kinda lame, dash rattles, paint isn't as durable as the single shot they laid on in the 70's, and some other stuff. For some stupid reason I like the little piece of shit. But make fun of it all you want, I wouldn't get upset.

Yeah, new truck probably will never happen as I am cheap SOB, rather keep the money in the bank...do like to look for some reason though.

Yep have a hobby, waiting for the weather to warm up to get out on the Beta 300RR, had a tease a couple weekends ago when it got int he 60's...now it is cold again, bummer.

Damn dude, and I thought I was grumpy. Seriously need to calm down, be like that health nut jogger back in... what the 80's? Out for a jog and dropped dead.

What's this nonsense of replacing the timing belt every 90k? It's a non interference motor, so run to fail. :burnrubber:

My first timing belt lasted 133k, and got shredded when my water pump locked up. Still rocking the replacement I installed back then. Not bad 1 replacement in 20 years/219k miles.

Maybe this will sell you on an even earlier pickup than the one you cling to?

FYI: These guys ended up being Ridgeline owners later in life, but Toyota served them well when they were starting out together.
