Let's just say it doesn't matter how hard you push the pedal down in the 2.7l, you ain't getting there any faster.

All of the V6 2nd Gens were DBW, you had me thinking and if I recall correctly the Tacoma started DBW in the 1st Gen around the 03 model year.

Nothing to add to what’s already been said about 4.0 vs 3.5. But why in the world would anyone pay cash for a ‘17 now with those fantastic financing options from Toyota. Essentially free money. Dow is down. Time to buy.

I've got drive by wire in my 1st gen and it's the same as 2nd gen, it's not the drive by wire that's different, it's the transmission programming and 2 OD gears.

They gave me 0% 4 weeks ago in FL on a '17 TRD 4x4 Sport. It's really what pushed me over the edge.
That and not wanting to get into all the other crap coming down the pike packaged into an '18 +

That's how they got me too. 0% plus a cheap price since the 08's were coming by, purchase price was ~6k more than a gen2 with 50k miles I was looking at, at the same dealership! Gave me 10k for my gen2, bought it for 16k 10 years prior to that. Unlimited power train warranty.

You didn't drive it hard enough. All the power is mid to high on the 3.5. It's there though.

I feel like there's too much play in the pedal. guess its not related to the dbw but maybe just the software and the tolerances in which it say "more go"

I was in the same situation with my 2004. I didn't want a second Gen but ready for a new truck. Almost bought a Colorado before they rolled out the 3rd gen. Every vehicle has its pluses and minuses. But don't let the salesman or others here on TW tell you it's going to magically perform differently after a few thousand miles. Congrats on test driving and honestly concluding it's not the right truck for you. I feel like this thread needs to be a sticky.

No sunroof. Fitting into the vehicle > any options lol. Just test drive a lot is my point. Plus, give it the gas when you test drive. It has more power than what you have Now, it' just at a different rpm.

I'd test drive a different truck if it were me. There seems to be some wild variations between trucks here. Even same model years. A lot of people have complaints that I have 0 experience with in my truck. The auto tranny being the big one for me. My truck has 0 issues holding OD, others here swear the truck won't stay for anything.

Bottom line, maybe your tester was a dud.

    C'mon ! You know it's true ! o_O
I dunno... It sounds so weird to say it, but I miss my '06 terribly. This separation has been very traumatic to me.
I haven't once come out to the new truck from the house or a store that it has made me smile.

The color, the snout, the angles.... all wrong, all wrong. Then I get in it and...:angrygirl:

    Problem is, I ain't a hard driver !
It scares the hell out of me to be driving at 85 with all the other knuckleheads out there.
I'm just not an aggressive kind of guy...

This, and also, actually test drive the Frontier, Canyon/Colorado and Ridgeline instead of just sitting in them at a car show. And maybe a few full size trucks.

Maybe after testing the others, the Tacoma will be judged in different light.

I still vote keep the 05 till it dies.

And the Ranger will be out in August.....
