    Give it time.
I had an fj and loved it, but I wouldn't take it now if you paid me. Lots of things I loved about it(motor) just aren't that great now.
Besides, maybe you just need to bond with your new truck. Like a lift would provide, both figuratively and literally lol.

If you want endless turbo problems then the ranger is your answer, but that’s another topic for a different day:laser:

I don't drive my truck hard either, but it's nice to know it's there if you need it.

I find it really amusing that people will bag on how slow the 4cyl is, while also wishing Toyota would offer a diesel.

My pitiful 2.7 is faster 0-60 than the Colorado deezul. We’ve come a long way folks, there are people alive who lived at a time when no car you could buy would even hit 60mph.

People who want a diesel forget that there is a penalty for all that low end torque and that is horsepower. Formulas don't lie.

81,000 miles... I would keep that until it really started to cost money to keep it road worthy.

Older vehicles with lower miles are the best... you don't have to worry about dents, paint fade etc... And, you know they are still reliable. I would really consider keeping it.

Op, It sounds like you want a tacoma because Toyota has served you well reliability wise, as compared to the poor quality build alternative experience of other brands. And, as much as you want it, it just doesn’t seem to fit you quite right.

And then you read on TW that it has no power, it hesitates and the quality maybe lacking by third party accounts on here.

I’m I hitting it home thus far?

If I am, I should point out that here we may have more enthusiasts, tinkerers, salesmen and detractors for whatever reason, more so than real or average owners.

The average owner just wash and drive their vehicles. They don’t add bigger tires and lift them, dismantle them to add sound, lights, switches etc. All these things either rob power, or can create malfunctions of all sorts.

In addition, you have a brand new model with everything new except for the seatbelts (ha-ha) and it seems to need to be driven some for it to adjust to all the sum of its new sophisticated powertrain parts.
To that effect, mine drives like a bat out of hell but didn’t come into its own till I clocked around 1800 miles on it. Others have reported similar experiences, while some seem to have had no adjustment issues right out the gate.

But I mention all this not to convince you to buy one, but to maybe help you dismiss the b/s rhetoric of some, and simply face the the fact that it just may not fit you right, but there’s no fatal real and insurmountable mechanical flaws that I have seen or verified.

Moreover, if you’re just looking for a newer mid size truck that fits you better, I recommend you look into the Nissan Frontier. That is a very nice truck, reliable from what I hear from real owners and probably save you nuff $$ to go on a vacation.
I will say though that imo, it may not be as offroad capable to the hard-core offroader as the taco, so if you’re in that number you maybe SOL.
But if you just need a good pickup that can go offroad you might want to check it out.

    Good luck!
    Cheers!

So how did 3rd gen beat 2nd in gauntlet tow by 45 seconds ?
I had a 2nd and my 3rd pulls stronger. With 20% more hp its a no brainer why.

No. Did you read his original post? He drove it and thought it sucked. It had nothing to do with what he read on TW

Can’t swalluw your pride eh? Just face the facts, the 3rd gen will never be as good as the 2nd gen is. Not until there’s a different power train.

This statement is just so wrong and uninformed, I’d actually compare this to someone trying to scare off a potential Tacoma buyer with good luck with your frame snapping in half... but not even as the frame thing was by far more an actual issue. Millions of ecoboost on the road with turbos and consider the diesels with turbos... it’s not 1984.

Keep in mind that most mini-vans will out-accelerate a Tacoma onto the highway, and it is mostly due to torque/weight. Don't expect the gen 3 to be powerful below its power-band. It has the same (-1) torque as your gen 2 but weighs more.

Give me your data that show your facts lol. There is all kind of data out there where the 3rd outperforms the 2nd. Have not seen any data going the other way, unless you count what you read on Tacoma World! Lots of fiction here.

I am looking at the facts. Gauntlet tow 45 secs faster than 2nd gen ! 45 SECONDS LOL. 20% more hp. It is what it is. In 45 seconds I can have a few beers before 2nd gen pulls in. Oh but I forgot it was a few feet faster off the line.
