I’m a minimalist and wanted to know if rather than carry the key with a big fob attached, can I get a blank key cut without unlocking features (fob part) and just use the bare “valet” key to start the truck? Tried to look it up but got mixed info. I know it’s impossible on the push start but fingers crossed for manual! Thx everyone!

You "probably" could defeat the system if you took the chip out of a key and taped or glued it on the steering column.

So you are 100% sure a chip is needed? Man I really am getting mixed answers haha

This video shows how you can remove the chip.

I like that key but have heard pretty poor reviews sadly.

Your key will have a chip in it. This has been standard fair in automotive for well over a decade. The only way to bypass this is to remove the chip from the key and keep it attached near the ignition switch. This will defeat your security system and make your truck very easy to steal though.

Do they make valet keys with the chips? Seems like it could be possible given how small the chips are

Do the Lexus key card thing maybe?

Edit: that may only work on push button

The only valet key I have seen is one that will unlock the doors and start the vehicle, but will not work on the trunk or glove compartment. My 2005 Corrola had that, but then had a pull on the floor to open the trunk anyway!?!? The valet ket still had the chip so the vehicle would start.

This key is what people have been using for the tailgate lock instead of carrying a regular key with push button start. It will not have a chip to start the vehicle.

OP, your info states you have a 2011. So if you are shopping for a 3rd gen, I believe the SR and SR5 both come with a key and not a fob.

All manual transmission trucks also have keys.

This is the key style that I was referring to... the difference between the regular key and the valet was the colour. Regulates black and valet was grey.

Yep just put a deposit on a 2022 lunar trd off-road manual. So will those keys work for current gens or are those older?

Well if you consider my tonneau cover as a trunk lid, then sure, why not!
