Can you stop doors from re-locking after I unlocked them 30 seconds ago with the remote?

I am finally sick of my Tacoma trying to outsmart me. The area I park my truck is about 100 feet away from my front door. I unlock it from my house for my kid to grab something for me, and by the time he gets to it, the doors have already re-locked themselves. It happens to me all the time too and drives me nuts. Is there a way for me to unlock the doors with the key fob and have them stay unlocked? I’m sick of having to run full speed to the truck from the house before the doors relock!

?????? My doors don't lock themselves.

Edit: From page 33 of the 2015 Tacoma owners manual:
"■Security feature - If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again."

My doors DO auto lock, BUT, using Tech Stream, I changed the auto lock time from the factory programmed 30 secs to 120 sec FWIW

There is a method to stop the auto lock, it’s been years since I’ve had a Tacoma, but what if you hold the unlock button for more then 5 seconds? There is a way to do it on the key fob….. I’m fairly certain. Fairly.

My 3rd gen does lock itself, but when it does that before I can lay hands on the handle, I always figured that was on me.

Not sure if this relates, but my wife has a Honda Accord (high end model) and you can program the door locks to do things like only unlock the driver's door, lock all doors when the engine starts, unlock doors when you shut off the engine, and other combinations.

The 2-gens can do that but can the 3-gens do it?

Found this on another thread. Give it a shot.

    --------------------------------------------------

Here you go... It's on the Alldata site. I turned mine off, it was pretty annoying...

As a convenience feature, the RS3OOO TVIP system is programmed to automatically lock all of the vehicle's doors (for vehicles equipped with power door locks) when the ignition key is turned to "ON" or "START", and unlock them when the key is turned back to "ACC" or "LOCK". The initial factory setting of this programmable feature is "ON". For some customers however, this feature is not desirable due to instances of passenger lockout when the driver enters the vehicle first and starts the ignition.

    AUTOMATIC (IGNITION-CONTROLLED) DOOR LOCKING/UNLOCKING FUNCTION
The factory setting for the AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING/UNLOCkING FUNCTION is "ON".
To change this feature's operation, follow the steps below:
1.Sit in the driver's seat with driver's door open.
2.Insert the key into the ignition switch, and turn it to 'ON" position (not "ACC") 5 times (ON > LOCK > ON > LOCK> ON > LOCK > ON> LOCK > ON) within a 10 second period.
System Response: The STATUS MONITOR's LED turns on, and the PIEZO BUZZER sounds once.

Wait until the kid gets closer to the truck before unlocking.

Not sure about 2nd gen but on 3rd gen I can change that setting through the radio and through the Carista OBD app. Can choose something like 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 120 seconds, and maybe off? It might just be 120 seconds and no off.

It’s overall a good feature because it makes sure if you unlock it and don’t open a door, it ends up locked again.

That’s a great idea… I could also just build a larger garage and park it in the garage and leave the truck windows down then it wouldn’t be an issue.

I’m not sure I can do that in the 2nd gen. The feature is great if I lived in the hood lol

You might be a good candidate for the Carista app then if your radio won’t let you do it.

You can change the time before it relocks. Go through the settings on the infotainment screen. Think 60sec is the max though.

Does your dome light come on when you open the door? LED dome lights?

The 1st time mine did that I was a little upset. But knowing that it will happen makes it easy enough to work around.
