This is an in-line 4 channel amp that will increase the power of your stock system - not sure if it bypasses the stock head unit amplification or adds to it - for my stereo 45W RMS would be a huge upgrade, not sure with the JBL as I thought that was already pretty powerful? This doesnt allow for the addition of separate amps, but you can wire a external powered sub by splicing into the speaker wires themselves.

Copy that I have been spoiled by having a nice system and I thought the JBL would make me happy but it does not so I want to add my Polk speakers and amplifiers along with the sub. Just trying to figure out I have to do it without paying thr installer to spend 2 days bypassing the stock amp and spending 350 additional on the taco tune.

replaced Entune JBL speakers with better speakers
Oh does not sound good for "upgrading" the 2018 JBL "premium" audio system. Nobody has any real answer. I have had good work & upgrades with Best Buy for years, even the same technician to do the work. He is "stumped" by the new JBL "premium" system, and it's does not seem upgradable. I have ask 2 dealerships and one referred me to Best Buy. Again, my BB technician said to go back to toyota on the system. Says the "amplifier" is under the back seat, and is a weird system designed to NOT be able to be changed. I would not like voiding the warrenties either. My 2015 tacoma was easily upgraded with a $70 amp fitting behind the system on the dash (and with better speakers) was GREAT...!!! But now, thinking the new tacoma would have the JBL "premium" system, as JBL is quite respected in audio systems. So i called JBL, talked to the phillipines and really did not get any upgrade information. They did refer me to some United Technologies, or some phone number i called and no answer. I told them the "premium" JBL system is not very good, or loud, and it looks BAD FOR JBL...!! that JBL is well respected but the "premium" JBL audio system in the tacoma is not very loud. So when i googled again to "upgrade jbl premium audio in tacoma," it brought me back to this site. I have even started my own listing here the other day, but nobody has approached the topic. Im waiting for the other tacoma dealership to see what they think: referencing other outside audio companies to change out the "premium" JBL which is worthless. I would welcome some attention from higher technicans, even from JBL, or tacoma toyota to let me know if this system is upgradeable with a bit more sound loudness, and i wanted to add another pair of rear speakers, to balance out the audio from the rear. It's not good to spend so much money on a new vehicle with a "premium" JBL audio system which is not very good, does not balance front to rear, and not enough loudness. Technically the audio is really good, but NOT LOUD ENOUGH. And there is NOT enough "Rear sound" to balance the fade front to back.

I'd love to have some expertise contact me on such. It's almost not the money, but the quality of loudness and balance which needs attention. But too, as purchasing a new vehicle, the "premium" JBL audio system seems to lock out the upgrades or refinements necessary. Not a happy camper with the "premium" JBL audio system.
