    Simple answer:

No. Do not put your transmission in reverse while driving at highway speeds.

There are kits that allow you to turn on the rear camera with a switch and that is your best solution.

It works. On the auto, it puts it in neutral.

I Ordered the any time camera kit and used this video to install it. I have pretty much the same set up as they do and use it all the time since I always back into a parking space, and measure how far forward I have to pull up before backing in.

Since you have a manual just put it in neutral and slightly hold the stick straight to the left just enough to overcome the lockout. It won’t go into reverse but the camera will come on.
On an automatic the camera will come on and it will not shift into reverse on hardly any modern car.

On my classics you can shift into reverse at 30mph in a field and have a good old time. It’s surprisingly easier to control than your expect. The rear tires lose traction instantly and go into a reverse burnout. Since there’s no braking applied you still have full control over your front wheels to correct for any sliding then you can do a sick spin after you gain enough reverse speed and shift back to 1st and repeat.

This guy does it with his old ford ranger manual. He is actually able to get the gear engaged and does a burn out. The truck does not go into neutral. But he does have to force it with 2 hands.

No need to buy any of these fancy wiring harnesses. Get up to speed and shift into race mode and you got yourself a back up camera.

I can...but I'm running an aftermarket Kenwood HU. I can toggle between 2 cameras at any time, in any gear

I am pretty sure the Anytime Camera setup someone posted above allows you to turn on your front or rear camera whenever you want with a switch.

On a related note, You can trick the truck into thinking its in reverse and it turns on the camera and the rear lights. But doing so causes a "brake override malfunction" light on the dash. I did this on my truck (auto) while trying to figure out a good way to turn on my reverse lights while not in reverse (I need to light up the area behind my truck during ice fishing season to make sure I get all my stuff loaded into the bed at the end of the night)

Btw I hope you don’t actually believe that, you’ll money shift and blow up the transmission.
