    ? I don't get it.

That's not really unique to here. Calgary isn't in downtown (way north), Victoria (as I learned in feb) isn't actually in Victoria either and Moncton's airport is in Dieppe. There is a park in the west end of Halifax where the original airport was. It sure is tiny, guess they wanted more space. Now it's like 20-25 mins from the downtown depending on traffic.

Just going to correct you on Calgary. The Calgary airport is within city limits. Actually there's a ton of housing literally within a few hundred feet of the airport that is part of the city of Calgary.

I think you meant to talk about Edmonton. Edmonton's airport is 20 minutes outside of city limits.

Most newer airports were built outside the city to save money. It takes a lot of hectares to build a good airport. It's way cheaper and less controversial to build airports in the middle of butt hump nowhere rather than downtown.

I said downtown, which it is not. I used to live in Harvest Hills which is 2 mins from the airport and about the same distance from DT Calgary as Halifax airport is from DT Halifax. And technically the Halifax airport is within "Halifax" limits too.

I was going off your way north comment. It's only a ten minute drive to the airport from downtown Calgary if traffic is good on the Deerfoot. Edmonton would of been a much better example or even Victoria like you mentioned. Both of those airports are way outside of town. For guys like me that live outside of town Calgary airport is in the perfect spot. Even though it's on the wrong end of town the new ring road gets me to the airport faster than I could get downtown. I'd expect it's the same story for most people even inside the city.

Anyone remember that Dorval outside Montreal was supposed to be the big new Canadian Airport? Between Quebec torpedoing their own economy and the extreme distance to Montreal Dorval ended up becoming a huge farce. At least Bombardier gets good use out of it.

I've never been through Halifax before :D.

    That happens? haha

The only times I flew into Edmonton, I didn't leave the airport. The times I drove there I didn't visit the airport so I didn't know that example.

Regardless, the point is that Halifax's airport isn't the only one far from the downtown area.

    :p You got me there!

Talking about transportation it's too bad the economy tanked. the province was just about to reopen discussions about a highspeed rail link between Calgary and Edmonton. That would of been sweet.

It wasn't Dorval, it was Mirabel. The province expropriated 1000's of acres of prime agricultural land, and much more than they actually needed. They built a new toll Autoroute 13 to get there. Land owners were ripped off. The project tanked, as airlines found it too expensive to use, and passengers hated the distance from downtown, and the tolls, which slowed down traffic flow. It is now used strictly as a cargo airport, which removes truck congestion from the west island/Dorval area.

Dorval International (in Montreal) is now named Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport.

... and btw, I stayed at the Travelodge Sleep/Park/Fly/Steal in Dorval a few weeks ago. My tailgate was stolen within hours of being there. I researched too late, as many people have complained about thefts from this establishment. Secure and safe parking? My a$$. Don't go there.

No camera surveillance there? I'd be pretty pissed. I haven't done anything to secure my gate but also doesn't seem to be a concern in my area.

Apparently there are camera's, but a walk about didn't reveal any mounted on the building. I asked to see the tapes, but apparently there is a privacy issue, and only the manager and police are allowed to view them. The manager is conveniently never there. The police took the report when I got back from Cuba, asked to see the manager, who wasn't there again, and that's about it. I've phoned a few times since out of curiosity, and guess what? Never there.

My new tailgate will have an electric Pop and Lock with Bolt technology, clamp mod on hinge, and washer mod on cables. They can try and take the whole truck next time, but next time I'm going to the Marriot, which has indoor parking with cameras and a security guard. $100 more for the night and a full 9 days of parking, but worth it.

Ya, I'm pissed. The inconvenience of having to drive 40 kms one way to get it fixed is a real time waster.

Yeah that's a really shitty deal. I've had to learn the hard way a few times that the cheaper option isn't necessarily the best... Although not burnt as bad as you got it. Are you going to hit up an auto wrecker or just go direct from Toyota? I'd think Toyota would be a small fortune :(

By the way I've seen your truck in a couple of threads, the stance looks awesome!

The rear 2.0 resi's are superb. I took all the air out of the Air Lift bags except for 5 lbs. They ride like a Caddy. I don't feel any hard jarring at all. My 2" add a leaf is coming this week, so I'm going to take the 1" block out too. Since I drive a DCLB, and am putting all the Avid bars on later this week as well (I had them Dupont Apollo Epoxy Bed Lined in gloss black), that should give me no more than 1 1/2" of rear lift. The rear Avid BG is 34 lbs or so.

Like your mirrors, my 2.5 coil overs are on the shelf (actually under my office desk). I was to install them upon return from Cuba, but I've been tied up running back and forth because of the tailgate. I'm dropping off the truck tomorrow, and I should have my truck back on Wednesday. I should be installing them later this week too. They have 650 lb coils, so that should compensate for the 32 lb light bar and the 72 lbs of sliders. There is also a BackRack in my garage that's ready to install. I would assume another 20 lbs.

I'll keep you posted through a build thread that I'm going to start once I get the truck back from the shop.

    Thanks for the compliment.

The tailgate, camera, hardware, and passenger taillight that was broken too, are 100% covered by my insurance. $2300 with $0 deductible... and that's for a mint wrecking yard 2012 tailgate. They are also cutting me a cheque for the carbon fiber handle cover, SR5 badge, and the JDM chrome TRD badge. I'm using that to buy the remote Pop and Lock with Bolt cylinder (uses ignition key).

I'll have brand new tailgate emblems, an SR5 and V6 emblem, and two used Tacoma door badges for sale soon, as the shop is not installing the gate ones. I bought a complete set of OEM gloss black badges for the truck from Toyota USA, plus a black TRD Pro badge for the tailgate. F*ck Toyota Canada, they won't give us one, so I'll build one better. The front grill badge will be Dupont Shadow Chromed black.

Man, do I have a pile of sh*t in my office!

I'll need a title for my build thread. Any suggestions?

I was thinking: Taczilla's Build - Back in Black
