So does that mean that they will kick out the gays from Alberta?

No, but people are stupid in general. Most people assumed that the candidates they were voting for weren't homophobic or in favour of rape imagery. Most people voted for change, not the NDP. Thank god people didn't vote Wildrose in the cities at least.

The media coverage of candidates in Alberta was pretty terrible overall. What do you expect when the Sun's Rick Bell (lead editorial) is married to a Wildrose staffer and the Herald doesn't even have a Sunday edition anymore.

Running against the PC and Wildrose in the Calgary or Edmonton was pretty much running unopposed. Most people didn't even know their candidate, they just knew which colour of Crush Soda they were going to drink that night.

Lots. The 20 year old in Edmonton was elected to the ticket by some friends in his local university NDP club. There are plenty of other examples of last minute candidates but google would be a better place to ask that question.

don't get me wrong, WR is fanatically religious IMO.
I just don't buy into the "being religious means you hate gays" mentality.

In Alberta now you see blogs and FB posts all the time about the "Religious Right" and the "NDP". It's like no one realizes that most of us don't fit into either of those categories.

People are dumb in general. They vote for the party and not the candidate. That lead to this problem. The NDP could of stopped the problem from happening if they had of vetted the candidates better, which they are now admitting they did not do a good job of.

As for the Alberta NDP as a government we will have to see about them in the fall. They won't be tabling a budget anytime soon from what the media is saying.

These shenanigans do cast a bad light on all Albertans and I do hold the party responsible. They had the power to vet the candidates better but instead they concentrated on running a candidate in every riding. My friend from Lethbridge ran in MacLeod-Livingston because they didn't have a candidate there. She's a 25 year old MFA student whose never held a real job and defines herself as an outcast even to her friends. Does that sound like the type of person 28% of a riding wants in office. Nope. Those people voted for there favorite Soda Pop and not the candidate that was actually running.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you about this.

I think the NDP did a great job of capitalizing in the last election. I just wonder if they will be able to keep it up considering most people voted for change and not the NDP. The Calgary Sun had an excellent article where they called a few hundred people who voted showing this a few weeks ago. I will try to find it.

Were we discussing minimum wage, which I actually have a very undecided opinion on, or the radicalization of Alberta's politics?

    Nope.

BTW Sun news is about as biased to the right as you can get. I wouldn't ever take anything they write without realizing their spin.

I don't think so. I think they are actually going to go over the books and figure out how to balance things by 2018. Where they might get derailed is if they try to do too much too fast for the economy to handle it. I hope this is a sign they will take a slow and metered assessment of any changes and how they implement them to minimize the economic impact.

That all being said the Albertan NDP's are VERY chummy with their Federal counter parts. IMHO I wouldn't doubt that right before the election they will do all they can provincially to help out the mother party, so to speak.

Not unique to the NDP, but it is new for Alberta. The Alberta PC's and Federal PC's do not always get along. For the past several years their youth organizations have had no association with each other. A good deal of the Provincial PC's here feel that the Wildrose has too many ties to the Federal PC's. I'm taking this all from my brothers word but he used to be pretty big into politics and even worked for Redford at one point, which was a bad career move , but he told me several times in the past few years that the Alberta PC's are not on good terms with there Federal counter parts due to the Wildrose getting a little too chummy with the Federal PC's.

I simply meant that with the Federal NDP lending so many senior resources to the Alberta NDP I'm sure there will be something asked of the Alberta NDP during the election. It could be party funds or manpower, something totally unrelated to Alberta finances, or maybe something else. It was meant as an open ended comment. Usually politics is all about favors, I'm sure the Alberta NDP won't get all this help without some strings attached.
