Yup, pancake breakfast photo op apparently. I'm surprised Tommy boy didn't show up. Jks. I'm pretty sure he's the type that wants the stampede shut down because it's so inhumane.

Fun fact, outrider horses are usually horses that aren't suitable for other work and would end up at the glue factory if it wasn't for chuck racing. Many racers have found their outrider horses this way. Also, far more horses die on farm due to stepping in a prairie dog hole or getting tangled in a fence than from rodeo. Horses are finely tuned animals and even what may seem like a slight injury can turn into a permanent painful disability that must be dealt with humanely.

Was at the chucks tonight. Great races all around. The one that died the other night was due to a bad smuck up with another wagon. Happens but still sad to see happen. Hoping the Vancouver PETA and Province don't have much to write about this year and the rest goes off without a hitch.

I guess I just see the rodeo as an extension of rural agriculture and culture. Kids learn to ride for fun and for work. The rodeo teaches skills that can be applied off of horse back around the farm. For people who haven't ever experienced that I can understand how it all doesn't seem all related but it is.

It might seem like chucks are just a waste of horses now but in reality it's a huge symbol of Western culture and the animals involved are treated far better than any track horse. I hope theyL chucks stick around forever.

Opinion articles are just that, not based on anything but their own ideas and findings.
Although I do agree with some of his opinions.

Yup. Just posted for some good old healthy discussion.

If anything I think the opinion hit two things I firmly believe in being wrong with the world today. First off the huge disconnect between certain urban locations and the rural areas. It's worry some too because it encourages less cooperation and more confrontation. That's not just about animal rights, but about farming, rural lifestyles, and values as well. It worries me that we will come to a point where people will make there decisions on a ballot based upon a populist movement rather than the reality of the food in the grocery store.

The second part is the funding for "activist" groups. There are less and less groups concerned with what they are fighting for then there are groups concerned with making enough money to shout there message. Conflict of interest is becoming more than a little bit of a concern. I get that the largest targets like the stampede will take the most flak because they are so high profile, but why not make these comments year round and during the planning stages rather than just when the camera is on the stampede? Probably because there isn't enough money in doing something like that. I do not know the funding structure of the Vancouver based group and I won't pretend too know, but it is a concern that I see growing as corporate activism becomes more common place.
