At the end of the day it's the provinces that take care of the highways with some federal funding chipped in as well. The "have" provinces definitely have better roads than the "have not". Secondary highways in Saskatchewan are almost gravel in some places from the lack of maintenance. I find the highways in Alberta extremely good. Same with BC for the most part.

 

Yes, the secondary highway system north of Edmonton is in rough shape and you are correct why it is that way. Did you not use 16, 2, 3, or 1 south of Edmonton? It's a night and day difference. We in the south of the province do get spoiled because our highways are in much better shape.

As for who pays for roads, I doubt oil and gas pays anything directly but they do in the form of their taxes and royalties. In truth a ton of money is being dumped to twin the highway from Edmonton to Fort McMurray, and that limits the money that can be spent elsewhere.

The frost does take a huge toll on roads but again, your assessment of why the roads are destroyed is correct.

Yes. Where there's more than 1m of headroom you would install 1x4 strapping for mechanical protection.

Hey guys, any of you live in or around Whistler? I am heading up there next week. I'll be there until the 22nd, and wondering if anyone knew of some options for transportation from Whistler back to YVR?? Our flight leaves early, so we have to leave whistler at like 3am.. Any help is appreciated

I think everyone should just whip out their dicks and see whose is bigger. You probably could get more useful information on what each leader would actually do in power from that information than the debates.

 

So you've already decided who you're voting for I presume

 

I have over 2 months to decide. No reason to rush. I want to see how the election polls look going into the last few weeks and who puts their foot in their mouth the most often. No pun intended.

 

The Leaders' Debate was actually pretty good

 

I watched all 2 hours

 

There was good exchanges between all 4 leaders , nobody was an all out winner and nobody seemed to lose , I thought Elizabeth May was well spoken too and she cornered Mulcair on a few questions over the NDP position on pipelines , in particular the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion to Vancouver that was obviously intended for local consumption in my area as far as people that are deciding between supporting the Greens or the NDP

 

I ended up taking the wife out for date night. Doesn't sound like I missed much then.

 

I saw a piece on the news last night re the GOP nomination debate that quoted somebody as saying " Having Donald Trump in the race for the Republican nomination is like having a drunk driver in a NASCAR race " lol

 

There's 3 parties I would wager you aren't going to vote for already

You do realize that we are dealing with humans, right? The ones who vote against their own self interest and happily wallow in selfish needs and unsustainable debt on the brink of bankruptcy every day, mainly becaue of catchphrases and slogans and lack of critical thought or due diligence?

Many of them even bought DCSBs.
