Yup. There's a lot of NDP hangover going on right now. Just look at the polls here now. No way the NDP would keep there majority. It is what it is though and I hope if these plans the NDP have fail they will see the light and adjust as necessary.

 

Have any of the Alberta NDP policies even been enacted yet ?

 

They have begun the middle management cuts at AHS and they have confirmed they will not be backing down on the timeline of the $15 minimum wage increase, the corporate tax increase, or the royalty increases (still being called a review but you have to be silly not to know an increase is coming their to cover other pending programs.) Given it's a majority and that's coming right from Notleys mouth I doubt we will see anything else. Everything is supposed to begin this fall except for the tax increase, which has been enacted. Notley also stated "In tough times people can't afford to pay more but the big companies can." The problem is those big companies employ the people and when you tax them you force the jobs somewhere else and unless you have some way of keeping them here it's not good for the long term. A job moved back to Houston is a job that isn't coming back.

Several companies have already begun layoffs in preperation, so you can say things are already rolling.

At least they are doung what they said they would , cough cough BC Liberals cough

 

Very few voted for their policies. They voted for "change". Hence, back to why I fear the current federal election.

Or they will see the new roads and other economic spin offs from fracking in Northern BC and not wonder anything at all. Not supporting fracking, I know to little about geology to comment with a truly intelligent opinion, but from what I have heard and read it's controversial for a reason. There are both good and bad aspects to the process and lots of unknowns.

Yeah, I've heard the million number a lot. Is there salt water or sulfurous aquifers in Northern BC like there are in some places here? If the water comes from there it's okay as long as the aquifer isn't to rapidly depleted.

The "chemicals" are part of what I don't understand. Coming from Agricultural sales I think sometimes "chemicals" get a bad reputation from the media and a general lack of knowledge, but I've never heard exactly what chemical is in fracking water and it's probably not good stuff.

Fracing doesn't occur in water well depths. It occurs much deeper down than that.

I know we need the oil and all... but seems like short-sighted gain, for very potential long-term pain, to me.
