I mean the only benefit I can see from her being in that position is that it might be well received by the media in the short term and the environmentalists in both the short and long term. However, I don't think her values would line up with most of the Liberal parties or the people who voted them in, so in effect she'd really be a lame duck because I doubt her policies or proposals would be acted upon with there original full intent. Which begs the question is it a good idea to have a powerless minister?

Did you think the Alberta PC's and Harper would stay in power forever ?

NOPE and the last 3 PCs were a JOKE to say the least. As far as Harper goes that was pretty evident from the begining how it would roll out given social media, etc etc. What dissapoints me and mainly cause I do not watch TV all that often, is how CTV and CBC basically ran the free media campaign for Trudeau though, very biased to say least. And in the first 20 minutes of actual coverage with 28 seats only collected at that point from Atlantic Canada both networks proclaimed (Federal Liberal) win, no seats of any other provinces at that time had been accounted for.

Never said it was, where we going with this? I am not blaming anyone for what happened, I have worked directly for oil corporations for over 20 years so I understand the business well, and am well aware of when shit hit fan and it was (PRE) NDP and I have never here or anywhere blamed the government for that. However that said Notley and the NDP have done nothing for the AB people thus far in a positive light. They tried to give themselves raises, then retracted after backlash. Called us the Embarrasing Cousin, I am sure you heard of that? It goes on and on and it is simply discouraging they're not focusing on how to stabilize and repair..

For me call it a deep bruise. Having grown up in the 80s' and through Senior Trudeaus NEP it crippled the community my family lived in. My Dad was in patch and my mom a teacher with 3 kids. We moved alot so we could make ends meet and interest rates over 20% and people losing everything they had left and right. Anyone that was in east never got impacted by that really and did not have to experience what the Liberals had done to many in the west at that time. If you live in BC up north there still is evidence of that Liberal power in FSJ for example, just read up on Fort St John Ghost Town and Dawson Heights for some examples.

Should I be over it?, sure I should...but to me they'll have to prove they care about the west at least make us equals, perhaps actually fix or look at our seat designation system country wide. Senior Trdueau made lots of negative comments about the west, previous to JTs being elected he made many public references to how Quebec should govern Canada and his dislike for the prairies as well so ya I am gun shy to trust him and their party. Party interest aside I had zero interest in NDP, but as far as intelligence and qualifications Mulcair was by far the most capable I just support their platform the least. He got robbed by the whole (ABC) campaign..

Point is you are the elected leader, at least if anything act like you are proud of your home in which you lead. That set off a ton of people and she had no apology for it either. Only a few months in that is a terrible way to go about things imo.

Wait until they give us there first budget. I'm guessing every public service will get a substantial raise, they will make some generous but potentially unsustainable hiring commitments for public health plus education, they will raise the minimum wage (already in place but with the protests some people thought they would reconsider the time table), and they will pay for it all with a combination of PST, higher taxes for anyone not on welfare, and crippling taxes on businesses with particular focus on the patch. That's what we voted them in for, right?

I've really tried to give the NDP some credit here but after the two issues you mentioned, and the recent developments with the oil companies squaring off against her government and Notley preparing to retaliate, I can't see much hope for the next few years at this point.

I am, and I make as much if not more than my Oil Patch equivalents. If I get fairly decent OT over the year I'm just shy of 6 figures. I have no issue with my taxes being used to help others. Pay for roads...infrastructure, etc. I'm curious as to the raise the NDP were giving themselves. I know with politicians they have set raises kinda like a union; I'm totally playing devils advocate here but could it be they just got elected at a time where MP's were due for a raise regardless of which platform was elected? (I agree, they never should have gone through with it however as it looks very very bad.)

Going to shit AND the PCs slashed royalties. Unfortunately Provincial and Federal PCs have been extremely self-serving the last decade +++. They've not worked for the people as a whole, merely they own ridings while letting the rest of Canada fall to shit. ($50 million into a PC Ontario MP's riding for Boarder securing...where it's not anywhere near the boarder?!)

The Oil companies have been stating that Notley and her Government have been the most open and fair to talk to out of all the Alberta Governments...

And some of the people here (Alberta) are the embarrassing cousin. Prentice stepping down from his riding completely cause he didn't win the election causing a Byelection and costing us Taxpayers even MORE money. People saying they want to pull a Quebec and Separate from Canada. You whiny fucks. Grow up.

I have to respectfully disagree on these points. The PC's lowered the royalties to get us to the point where 6 digit, which I do not make, incomes were common in the patch. People wanted low tax rates, both personally and for businesses, so they could maximize there fun now and pay for it later. Well the PC's are to blame for indulging the people with a model that wouldn't work they didn't do it against the wishes of the electorate. They did exactly what everyone wanted.

The oil companies were all hunky dory with Notley until their first quarterly statement. My wifes uncle is a VP for Husky. His description of the interactions and company attitudes towards the Notley government would not be described in a positive way. That's bad considering all that has happened is a slight increase in the business tax, and it's only going to get tougher.

People forget that things like roads and hospitals cost money. They want them but they don't want to pay for them. Look at the Klein era. Everyone says how great he was, he got rid of our debt and blah blah blah. Yeah, we lost a perfectly good hospital, had no new schools built and our infrastructure turned to rubble. People don't understand that you have to pay to play to use your vernacular. And that's in the form of taxes. Unless you want toll roads everywhere.

I also can't grasp how people can actually attempt to hold Justin Trudeau accountable for policies that his father's government introduced

Both the NDP and the Tories tried to pin that on him during the campaign too
