I'd agree with that statement in general about the general population. However, I believe the road budget was acceptable under the PC's and will stay roughly the same under the NDP so I'm not sure that's the best example.

Hospitals, well Calgary just received a new one and with growth slowing to a trickle and contraction possible I'm not sure if Calgary would need another. I'll have to ask my mother in law, who was in AHS for a long time and only retired last year as the head of long term care for the province.

Spoiler alert: Only a few idiots do that who are upset that the PC's lost. I certainly don't and will not correlate the actions of the father and the son. Honestly I hope Justin can follow through on his promises and make life better for the middle class everywhere in Canada.

The highways around here are good. Like I said when we had that discussion I haven't been on 16 in a long time, nor 2 north of Edmonton, so maybe it's worse up there.

Also, I doubt the NDP will be building roads unless Trudeau offers up Federal money for that. I wouldn't be surprised if Notley decided to turf the Fort Mac highway twinning too and put the money into somewhere else like education.

Basically , the more fuel you use , the more tax you pay , which correlates to your use of the road system , divert those procedes to road infrastructure

The fuel tax was raised under the PC's as one of their last actions but I don't think she would target the commercial vehicles to be honest.

In theory. I don't think a lot of Carbon tax revenue would end up going towards road maintenance to be honest. It'll probably be used to fund other infrastructure improvements.

I just hope any Carbon tax has realistic goals and fee's, or a tiered implementation, so that it doesn't just act as an economic suppressant. The goal of a Carbon Tax should always be a sustainable increase in energy efficiency and the slow phase out of heavy carbon producing practices.

As someone who works in Healthcare I can tell you that we need much much more. You want to save money? Change how doctors are paid. Currently they're all glad handing/circle jerking the shit out of each other and that's why there's ambulance and bed shortages. Flat rate these fuckers instead of paying them per procedure, PT contact, consult, transport etc. THEY are the ones nickle and diming the system to death. A lot of these rural hospitals need to be updated and improved. Almost every rural community needs more long term care beds. You're taking ambulances out of service to take PTs from hospital A to hospital B because they don't have any beds cause they're all full of LTC PTs who are waiting for a LTC bed.

I've also worked pretty much everywhere in Alberta, lots of those roads are crap. Don't get me wrong, our roads are like glazed marble slabs compared to BC's shit show roads, but again, you start getting into the rural areas, you might as well invest in LT to soak up the pot holes.

Flat rating instead of per procedure seems backwards, no?

I'm lucky, our local hospital has an excellent foundation that takes care of it. Most of the small rural hospitals have been shut down or reduced to high end clinics, ours has not. I'm not sure rural hospitals are sustainable without community involvement at all levels like in our town.

Don't even get me started on the provincial ambulance system :censored:

But that's the thing, they start sending you for every procedure possible to make a buck. I'd have PT's with long standing Dementia getting sent for Head CT's because they're mentally altered. Are you fucking kidding me? You're taking an ambulance out of service for 3+ hours for that? Or a broken hand for a wrist CT? Have you heard of either an X-Ray or transporting by family?

Where are you out of? South of Cowtown, Medhat?

I have no idea what Ambulance Service is in that area. I don't think it's AHS though.

It was switched away from the localities last year to the province. Ever since we've had a few mess ups where Ambulances from other areas were called in unnecessarily or arrived to late. The system needs a lot of work, it doesn't always seem to get it right.

Ah yes. There's good and bad sides to that. The bad is they'll pull your ambulance to go do other calls if there's no ambulances in Medhat lets say. However, if your truck is gone, it allows them to pull a truck from nearby to come to your area fairly seamlessly. However depending on who they're both dispatched by is the biggest cause of fuckups. Hence why we all need to be dispatched by the same Dispatch centre, and we all need to be on CADs. (Computer Aided Dispatch) can see where all the ambulances are in real time and what they're doing. (Chilling at the hall, enroute to a call, transporting etc.)

I understand how the system is supposed to improve things, but that has not been the overall feel and experience I have been hearing. Maybe some dollars could go to hiring more EMT's and getting more Ambulances on the road rather than guarantee every nurse a job out of school?

Fuck me , it's refreshing watching a hockey game without every 2nd commercial being a political attack ad
