Yup. Time will tell. If history is any indication the thousands of Lebanese living in Canada due to the Arab wars decades ago didn't do any damage to the country when we were much smaller, so there is a good reason for optimism.

It always happens, no matter which party wins.

Same with the hatred for Harper. People hated Chretien when he left. People hated Mulroney when he left. Take what you will from it, but people hated Trudeau the 1st when he left to. In all cases people voted someone in basically because he wasn't the other guy. All of this is nothing new, but some people keep drumming it up like it's groundbreaking or something.

Well exactly , pretty sure it was the 2/3 of the country not wanting Harper that got him booted instead of the CBC

The factual historical thing is the degree of the comeback from 3rd to 1st

Never said it was directly the CBC and I don't disagree on how he was removed. Obviously the whole ABC movement worked for the switch voters etc.. All I was saying is that the two major networks being liberal supported made a huge impact is all.

I'm glad we are all agreed. The majority of people were tired of a leader and booted him out. End of story. 10 years from now people won't remember Harper for this. I can tell you that.

I don't agree that they could have had a huge impact

Most people don't even watch the news , but everybody was bombarded by Tory attack ads since day 1 of the campaign and the quasi legal Conservative platform advertising we all got to pay for in the year leading up to the election call

The Liberals had never been set back that far by the NDP before either. It's historical, but there's more history behind it than people banding together to slay the evil Harper. Mulcair seemed to always have a hidden agenda and was always attacking rather than explaining, Justin had daddies name and some of his charisma, and Harper looked like a tired stiff. Then there was the early Atlantic election results, the polling results, and other factors which pushed the left vote towards one pole instead of two. All together, it's an interesting historical event, but not singularly the result of a concerted anti Harper movement or the Trudeau that benefited from the circumstances.

Well the balance sheet is zero and we're in top G7 countries as is. See what 4 years from now says. There will be happiness and reward or regret for some by then. I'm hoping at some point for a look at the proportional system in regards to seats allocation etc. That is one thing IMO that has to be corrected for all future elections and should have been adjusted many years ago. Quebec having as many seats as all of BC and AB together? Sorry that doesent make sense neither does Atlantic Provinces seat counts at their population base either...

You don't think the vote result reflected a concerted anti Harper message ?

It made an impact. I'm not sure it was huge since most of Ontario and Quebec had voted by that time and the Liberals really didn't need that many seats to get their majority either.

Reflected? Sure. Was the Liberal majority a result of that. No. There were other factors involved in that as well.

OZ I was more bombarded by pictures of Harper in a Nazi uniform or people who don't even know how our systems works blabbering about a bill they didn't even understand then attack ads to be honest. It was a pretty bush league election all around that makes me extremely agitated at the state of people in this country right now. We are no longer the Canada I was proud of as a kid and Harper didn't cause that. We did.
