BTW @OZ-T did you see the news about our new Carbon Tax in Alberta. The industry loves it because it barely effects them but for every Albertan, based on the numbers several outlets have worked with, it will add up to the equivalent of a 3% income tax on those of us that have a job. Oh, and it's not revenue neutral. The money does not go back to Albertans. It will go against the debt (which is smaller than our savings btw) or it will be spent on the expected budget shortfall due to the lack of cuts the NDP are willing to make to any program...

One way of looking at it is that they added a PST under the guise of a Carbon Tax.

Chalk up another fail by the NDP for every Albertan. You can only squeeze so much water from a stone.

 

At least the firearms background check is done against people for which adequate records exist. The RCMP background check for a Canadian, well, covers everything you've done either in Canada or internationally care of interpol from my understanding. The problem with the refugees from Syria is that those records are scarce if they even exist. Just food for thought. I'm not trying to fear monger but I do wonder if the project has been rushed due to Trudeau Mania.

The Bill 6 videos from the Alberta Legislature are funny. The NDP is clearly throwing a bone to their union cronies. Sad. I had hope they'd surprise me and come up with meaningful and well considered farm worker legislation rather than stick the same laws to agriculture as every other industry. She defends it saying that Alberta is the only province without protection for farm workers in the form of being able to refuse work. Well, Misses Notley, Alberta will soon be the only province that doesn't realize that Agricultural work is not the same, neither in scope nor in time, as any other work other legislation covers. What a gong show this is going to be.

Yours is revenue neutral. Ours is not. That's a big difference. Funds raised from yours goes back to the taxpayer and only truly taxes the oil producers, which is a win-win. Ours is not revenue neutral. It will hurt tax payers and producers will be able to pass their tax cost off on the consumer... it's a very poor decision and not because it's a Carbon Tax. The implementation is terrible.

Fair enough. I'd rather they just not dress it up as a Carbon Tax, because it won't suppress fossil fuel production. The consumption may go down slightly, but the market won't change much. Everyone needs to heat their homes and they aren't putting these taxes towards alternative energy at the private level.

 

I don't disagree with you. I sense that you misunderstood me.

There is no denying though that it's sickening that they refuse to help their own... and that we can't do the same for our own needy. That's all I'll say about that.

 

I don't buy the whole " their own " thing , I don't see it as an us and them or Christians and Muslims , the refugees are just people fleeing violence to me

 

I simply mean that maybe we could spend the kind of money on veterans, the mentally ill, and the homeless here that we are investing to bring over Syrian refugees. Let's be honest, Trudeau is taking on 25,000 because it's a win win FOR HIM. He looks good internationally and domestically as a passionate Canadian. It's a huge resume builder for him early in his term. Spending the same amount of money on our own needy wouldn't get him the same accolades.

There is no us or them when it comes to who we should accept as refugees. Don't you try to put those words in my mouth.
