The mention of Cowspiracy was to only understand agricultural impacts from methane and CO2 emmissions. I'm not a Vegan I could not be and Leonardo while a good actor is a clown when it comes to his approach to environmental concerns. Hell the guy referred to a Chinook in Calgary as a scary climate change caused by global warming.

Given your apparent opinions I'd be careful about throwing the beef industry under the bus. I put that in bold to get you to understand that Agriculture is way too broad an industry to say the whole industry is a source of methane. In our area, in particular, it's the beef industry that's the largest contributor to methane emissions. To be honest right now they are about the only industry thriving here. As bad as the crap pile is that you are dealing with pointing and waving at the kid next door isn't a way to solve what happened to your industry. I'd be careful about doing so. If you take away Agriculture and Oil from this province there isn't much of anything left. Just about every dollar that comes into the province comes from one of those two sources.

With the regulations and monitoring, implemented on new pipelines, it would be noticed quite quick (personal experience - I was in the pipelines group and dealt with broken lines, leeks, new lines, etc and if there was even a few drops leeking in some places it was notified and the line was shut instantly).

As for old pipelines, thats a different problem...

I agree is affects GHG emissions, but I think technology will advance to a point where emissions can be reduced to almost nothing...

Im more talking about the manure and animal by products, not pesticides and herbicides used in crops. Sorry when I said agriculture I should have meant more the "animal agriculture" industry. are there the same regulations on this? (ie how close animals can be to flowing water?) Care to provide more info? Im mainly going off google and trying to "fact check" cowspiracy haha

EDIT - Saw your new post, yes my mistake, should have specified all agriculture to more livestock (mainly beef) - my mistake

Thanks! Another documentary to watch!

im not Vegan, I love me my meat :dancingbacon: and I agree Leo is a clown, but I just liked it because it points the finger away from O/G which takes alot of heat and to a potentially larger problem that is rarely talked about. I mean everyone bashed alberta oil but noone points a finger at Quebec importing OPEC oil....

I also think global warming is a lie ....

I'm on the plant side of things so I can't answer the question as well as I'd like. It is my understanding that every farm must have a nutrient management plan in place for where their manure is going. I know that they do soil test the land to avoid creating areas where overly high levels of phosphates will leak from. Our soils in Alberta have a very high pH and that ties up phosphates extremely well so it's not as hard here to manage as it would be in California, Illinois, or Ontario. Very large feedlots will liquefy the manure and pump it through the irrigation systems over thousands of acres while carefully watching there soil tests. When this is done right, and it has to be by law, the risk of phosphate leaching becomes very small. Nitrates are a little more tricky but honestly more of a problem from chemical fertilization.

I guess another point is that any feedlot that is built must be approved locally and that requires a very extensive environmental review. So, yes, they do keep feedlots away from water sources. What can happen though is that old feedlots, which existed before this was all a concern 30 years ago, might be too close to a water source for comfort. In those cases usually though a farm will take extra precautions to avoid nutrient off flow into surface water. Also, remember that a farm is responsible for any damage that nutrient off flow causes if they didn't take full due diligence, so in reality farms are very careful to take extra good care of there wastes to avoid the issue all together.

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?
PLIMER: "Okay, here's the bombshell. The recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet - all of you.

Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.

I know....it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50p light bulbs with ÂŁ5 light bulbs ..... well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes, FOUR DAYS - by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time - EVERY DAY.

I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.
Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year - think about it!!!!
Of course, I shouldn't spoil this 'touchy-feely tree-hugging' moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus 'human-caused' climate-change scenario.

Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention 'Global Warming' anymore, but just 'Climate Change' - you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past few years and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And, just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme - that whopping new tax - imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But, hey, relax......give the world a hug and have a nice day!"

Few years old but you get the idea how small we are in this so called climate game of CO2...

No I science, I love science as it uses fact and not opinion like liberal arts... I just call it climate change vs jumping on the Al Gore fan train though

I agree various emissions lead to the greenhouse affect and overall as humans create too much waste (both solid and also in the air) , but no matter what we do, the sun has a greater affect on us - scientests all around the world agree with this and also predicts an ice age coming in the next 15-20 years... I support us reducing, but not the hype of global warming.

On a side note - Does anyone know if there are any restrictions (IE nighttime travel) on the highway going from Calgary to Vancouver? Were planning on heading back out to the coast the night of the 25th to try to be there the morning of the 26th? I know they may close it is its too snowy or something (IE large accident), but am not too sure if they allow night travel this time of year?

Highway 1 is open all year unless there is a major wreck along it. So is Highway 3 if you are taking the scenic route.

Switching topics. @DoorDing here are some pics

As you can see my driver side spindle was flattened and my wheel alignment was a joke. My truck basically bounced off of one rock, which destroyed the passenger side rim, and slid into a frozen vertical berm on the other side. We didn't even notice the damage to the passenger side rim and I drove it back to the trail head like that.

Once we were out I hit the pavement and realised, with the help of some fresh snow/slush, I could bury one tire in the slippery stuff and one on the pavement and get it back to Cochrane. I don't live there but I know several people there and one of the guys I was wheeling with has a shop there. So I took her very slow and got it back. All in all the bill should be about $1600. I'm not beating myself up too much because even sliding into a ditch could of caused similar damage. The thing that sucks though is that I have new coilovers and used uniball UCA's sitting at the border and at home that I might have to delay putting on until I can get the alignment tabs fixed. Mine are flattened right out after this and the mechanic could barely get the truck back to acceptable specifications.

@bayrak I know you are on UO too. Check out some of the writings people have made about the trails around on there Nelson. Also, there are some good spots to check out around Fairmont and Radium. Highway 3 would take you right past those spots on your way home. I wouldn't recommend running alone but if you could find some backup along the way there is a great deal of exploring to do.

I also noticed on there you posted a pic of some radflos. Did you end up using them and how do you like them? I have a set on the way that should be at the border on Tuesday with 650 lbs coils and extended travel.
