First off, I am not a climate change denier.

However I think what @bayrak was getting at is the solar energy cycles. To be honest we do not know a lot about the long term cycling of our star. Yes, we know the 7 year cycle but that appears to be a part of a larger oscillation. Whether or not it has anything to do with globally higher temperatures is anyone's guess. I firmly believe there is more at play to "global warming", I much prefer climate change because global temperatures are just a part of the problem, than just our own CO2 emissions. I look forward to more data coming in to try and get as clear a picture of what is happening as possible.

What isn't a guess though is that humans are releasing carbon into the atmosphere at an astonishing rate. If anything that alone should be a cause for concern. We need to do what we can to slow or stop our own effect on climate change. The more environmentally neutral we are, within economic reason, the better the chances that our species won't kill itself off.

I'm guessing he's slightly younger than that. Hey, at least he's skeptical. I'd rather have someone going to school who is a bit skeptical than someone who preaches the textbook as the gospel. If people kept doing that we wouldn't have discovered how retroviruses, prions, or epigenetics work because all of those things broke "laws" that were irrefutable at one point in the books until very recently.

Yeah Ill likely order one - maybe even from radflo. A buddy in vic has one for his toytec coilovers (I assumed I needed a radflo specific one) but if not, I may be able to borrow his! Also Ill need you to report back on something for me though when you get yours - When I hold the top plate on the shocks and wiggle the shock, there is some play. If I jack the truck up (shocks all bolted up) i can wiggle the shock and there is play in the top plate where the shock mounts to it. Im not sure if this is normal?

Yeah Im only 22... but as Sterdog points out Im one of the few in the Enviro. program who come from a different main faculty (ENG) and challenge the dioloug. Profs dont like me because I one of the few who challenge them and ask questions rather then just following the herd:stirthepot:....

    Asking questions is great but remember this ;

" You're entitled to your own opinion , but not your own facts "

Keep the two seperate and you'll do fine

If you want to get technical there are very few facts in the world. Everything related to science is more a bit of theory and inference backed up with enough data to come to the conclusion that it is likely fact. There is always that 5% margin of error though that is commonly accepted.

The idea though is consistent with what you are saying. You should always be skeptical of statements and opinions until you yourself have enough reliable data to either confirm or refute those statements with some degree of great certainty. Questioning data that is statistically 95% certain is fine when the data pool is small. When the pool grows to the point though that it is huge and that number doesn't start to get darn close to 100% I do get concerned though that some variable is not being accounted for.

Oz I completely agree! Opinions and Facts are two different things - Facts influence opinion but it depends where you get the facts from.....

A thing I find at UVic is alot of students (especially the enviro and arts programs) will hear a "fact" from one source (IE prof, or some bullshit meme off facebook), and just accept it. There is no desire to go further to seek conflicting information to see how they compare, especially if it makes them feel uncomfertable, or go against the social norm of the school. I feel wayyy out of place on campus considering I have conflicting political views with majority of the students and profs and if I voice something that goes against this norm, rather then providing information (like you have done with global warming) they resort to the typical name calling like racist, bigot, etc and turn it into a personal attack against me vs a discussion on the topic at hand.

An example was a vote we just had to raise student fees, which would give more to the UVic LGBT "club". If you opposed this (they would be getting close to an extra $15,000 a year...) you were labeled homophobic.. Im sorry but as a student I dont need more rainbows painted on our crosswalks... Id perfer lower gym fees, cheaper food on campus, or even cheaper printing prices - something that helps the who school rather then a very small minority.

Speaking of math... Some quick facts on renewables. Now understand for years I've been saying Natural Gas is and would be the cleaner alternative. Several large facilities that power the main cities are half way setup for NG and co generation. Issue of course being the thousands that work in coal industry. We have an abundance of NG in the west it would be the smartest, quickest, cleanest and most financially feasable route to alternative power measures with minimal environmental impact. Unfourtenetly the new NDP in Alberta does not get that. Somehow having wind farms already in place and seeing how minimal effectiveness they have in our most prominent wind section of the province is not enough to show it can not be done....

Ok let's clear the air on something. Is there climate change? Yes there is. Has it happened and been going on since the age of birth of the earth? Yes it has.

These discussions go round and round there is as much evidence and research to show against as there is for. Climate change since I've ever heard the phrase is and always has been used as a political knife. Last summer we had 6 weeks solid forest fires, environmentalists said it polluted the air more then the last 15 years of industry at peak.

Should we as people be still focusing on being more environmentally cautious? Absolutely.

However here's the thing. The technology we have available to us TODAY is not an instant replacement. The goals and ideas of politicians is beyond unrealistic and they present unrealistic goals to mindless sheep. Then... Of course every industry, people
Pay the price for these politicians. Meanwhile like
It or not someone else, another country rubs their hands together and says "look at those fools"....

As much as everyone wants sunny ways, rainbows and unicorns it's not 2050 and cars are not hovering etc etc...

Oil seaps naturally into oceans daily from ocean floors, millions of barrels globally, yet people will protest when a small pipeline leak occurs somewhere in the world. Volcanoes and fires erupt daily in the world causing more air pollution then we can create in a lifetime yet we're all on this big charge.

I'm not saying don't worry about it, that's irresponsible. I'm saying do it in a time manner that makes sense, do it where it can work, and understand the technology we have today and it's limitations. The people saying we alone are the killers of the earth I say you're full of shit, we are not. You will never see countries like China back off, they'd be closest to world negative and world
Killers you'd speak of in regards to climate. But... Alas what can you do about China and countries that will never abide to your ways of thinking environmentally? Nothing....

Seems like maybe we need a global agreement on GHG emissions

I'll give an update tomorrow. Right now it has a new spindle and the alignment is done. It's sitting in the shop waiting on rims from the local toyota dealer who had the best price. I've never even seen the Rima but I think I got the FX pro rims from FN which are almost the same as the Toyota TRD Pro rims. They were 300 sticker but I got them for 800 with lug nuts for a set of 4!
