Yeah, I'm thinking they should rename the CCTB to the "Maury Povich 8 Kids From Different Daddies High Living Benefit". MPEKFDDHLB for short.

No matter how hard you try to convince yourself and others that the poor and the disadvantaged have it made leaving in the poverty line, being homeless, or collecting welfare it's a very hard life that no one on this forum would accept. If you're able to work, and you are not mentally ill you can live a pretty high quality life anywhere in North America. Welfare, unemployment assistance , food banks and handouts are not easy or free rides. I feel a lot of empathy for those who have to use them.

    :notsure:

Are you not seeing the same loop holes in this legislation.

I'm all for helping those that need help but this legislation is wide open for abuse, particularly from the disadvantaged that have done poor family planning. It would of been easy to close the loopholes too but they left it wide open.

BTW I also never commented on welfare recipients in general. I simply made the statement that the new CCTB is wide open for abuse.

That's how I read it. Like I tell my kids, if you need help you ask for it.

Of course that's if you need something heavy off a high shelf and it's safer to ask Dad than to start piling stuff up to climb on.

    Actually the analogy applies.

Your right it maybe wide open to abuse, but these types of social assistance programs are always abused by the few. Most that utilize them though are either hard luck folks, IE a ton of hard working Albertans these days, or people that need these types of programs because of mental issues or disabilities.
I heard that the government is asking for Albertans to get more than the 42 week lotto if they still can't find a job before their EI runs out. Maybe instead they could just pop out a few extra kids and never have to work again....:D

Agreed, but this is also part of the problem. How is having an incentive for someone who is mentally ill, or otherwise disabled, to have even more kids a good idea... Like I said if they simply restricted how many kids the benefit applied to or a maximum level of tax free benefit then I think this program could take care of those who need it and protect itself from abuse. Otherwise if enough abuse happens the next government will scrap the program and then what was the point?
I swore that I heard that Justin was going to extend the EI benefits for Albertans or something like that.

If women could pop out 5 kids in 42 weeks... well they'd be Cats lol.

I'm still surprised how many 42 week lottery winners are turning down jobs. I know a few that have applied for jobs in agriculture, the P Ag is valuable there to some companies, and have flat out refused work because it didn't pay the 6 figure income they were used too. It's going to be a hard reality for them when they realize most people don't make over 100K in Canada... or live in $800K homes with two brand new cars and a new truck on order.

Also of note is that the Arts and Fitness credits for kids are gone. So families might get a bit more on their cheque but less overall if they had kids in expensive Arts or Fitness programs. That's not good IMHO. Hockey and Dance here are expensive enough. Now they will be even more so.

Yay for more fat and culturally challanged kids!

Hmmm I haven't heard that at all honestly. Maybe a few folks that are nuts but most folks I know searching for jobs these days are applying for anything and still can't even get a call back or they have been taking jobs completely out of their field and have either had to lie on their resumes or dumb themselves right down cause who gives a job to an O&G person who will leave as soon as it comes back?

I've applied for positions that request 2-3 years experience in exactly what I have done for over 15 and don't even get a call back forget a chance at a job for less than $100k. I believe there was a ton of middle management that was let go with over 25-30yrs and now are taking all these low end jobs to get by and will be bailing the minute it all goes back up.

If you have a P Ag I could get you a job with my old company in a week. They're desperate but the pay starts around 60K. They've had a few interviews but no one is taking them up on the offer.

I should also mention that these jobs involve moving out to smaller towns. They don't want people commuting 2 hours to work from Calgary because it complicates a lot of benefits.

"EI benefits in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northern Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador can now be claimed for a maximum of 50 weeks, an increase of five weeks.

The 2016 budget also reduces waiting periods and the required work experience for new entrants and re-entrants for EI."

Nope that's not my background but thanks for the offer. I'm lucky I have a steady gig right now, considering I've been laid off twice in the past year or so, just looking for something a bit more challenging than this crap.

Just another day on the pipeline...the worrisome pipeline...

Welfare is abused so much here. The majority of users are just lazy no lifes. Youl see them everyday leaned back on their lawn smoking a cigarette baby in hand. It sickens me that ive graduated with people that their plan in life was to immediately get on it. "i cant wait to get out and on welfare"
