Family in fortmac was evacuated today. Within looking distance of their home others are engulfed in flames. I was sent videos and they actually gave me chills. Hope everyone makes it out alright and has a home to return to.

For comparison purposes:
The 2011 Slave Lake wildfire destroyed ~400 buildings and homes, burned 4,700 hectares, doing about $800 million worth of damage.
The Fort McMurray wildfire has damaged or destroyed 1600 buildings and homes as of yesterday morning and has so far burned 85,000 hectares.
BMO is saying damage could cost insurers up to $9 billion. Making it by far the costliest natural disaster in Canada's history.

Holy shit , latest reports has the fire size at 101,000 hectares and they predict it could double in size by tomorrow night

Alberta wide ban on motorized vehicles on crown land until further notice:

So no wheeling until we get clearance from the province. Oh, and to clarify to the people who thought this only applied to ATV's, these signs have been placed outside of the PLUZ's.



So don't fall for the old "I heard from a WO that it's okay to be in here with a truck." The WO's didn't understand what the original order was so some of them allowed trucks to wheel in these area's... which is why this has been clarified with signs lol.

Our local club has this posted. Good chance itll be a wheeling-less summer.

Yeah both of the local clubs I do some wheeling with have posted this and started to kick the members that openly defy the ban. What makes me sad though is that some groups are supporting wheeling during the ban as if it's some sort of way to protest a political agenda. A lot of folks are frustrated by this. I can forsee the ban becoming a major issue within the community if it goes on for more than a week or two.

I know of one Calgary based group that has already said they plan on wheeling as much as possible this weekend. The CO's don't even know exactly how to write up a ticket for this so for right now they aren't doing anything which is giving those groups the impression that they are in the right. Things could get really messy with the media if groups decide to go ahead and openly work against the ban. It's scares me a bit to be honest.

 

Those people sound like retards , its a pretty basic concept to grasp

 

These groups have to understand that 4wheeling is already looked down on for environmental impacts. All itll take is some careless asshole out in the boonies to accidentally start a fire. Like you stated, media will have a hayday.
