I guess it's just human nature. You can't expect too much stewardship of coastal BC from Alberta or Ontario. You have to be on Vancouver Island or Haida Gwai to get it. Organizers like the Dogwood Initiative are working at the grassroots and demonstrate democracy in action. Like it or not it's reality and a lot of people don't want coastal BC polluted by tar sands oil.

Saw this truck the other day heading home from Lethbridge. Hope it's readable, BlackBerry camera isn't the greatest.

That would be true.. except I spent a semester of high school in Sydney. So, yes, I've not only been to the Island but I've also lived there. I get it, but I also get that you can have it both ways when things are done right. There is already hazardous port traffic though the Juan de Fuca. In fact their is already oil shipped through the terminal in Vancouver. Nullifying the already agreed pipeline deal won't stop any of that. Again, spin spin spin.

As for the Dogwood initiative they have their own motives. They are a leftist lobby group in all but name. I do admire their objective of getting big business out of elections but I can't agree with the mentality of most of their membership. You can't be that one sided and non partisan. By definition that doesn't make sense.

Yeah, and if it stayed like that we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. It's time to get the solar panels mounted up on those Prinsu racks boys.

    ?

Corporations and unions have been contributing to elections since this country was founded. Actually I'm way more pissed off at union support. I've never had a company tell me which way to vote but unions do it ALL THE TIME. Like I said, I'd love to see that support heavily regulated.

Modern elections are all about social issues anyways. Most people don't give a shit about figuring out which party will benefit their lives the most. It's all about the intangibles now which makes no sense but whatever. I guess we can support everyone on EI eventually.

I think the coopers, farriers, carriage builders, horse trainers and buggy whip makers all felt the same way at the end of their century. A new paradigm is coming and nothing is more certain than change.

Hey I'd love to be talking about after oil and coal, but the truth is renewables aren't feasible yet. You can see windmills in every direction here but we still need a half dozen natural gas plants here in the next 10 years just to keep up. If people would accept nuclear energy what you are saying could come true but they won't. Until Fusion is a realistic energy source our dependence on fossil fuels is a necessity of life. Better to manage that resource in a sustainable manner rather than shut it out like a child without any other options.

Just to poop on your analogy too most of the corporate involvement in the industries you mentioned ended up in the auto industry... the same will happen with current renewables. At best maybe in my lifetime I'll be able to lease roof top panels, but I doubt I'll ever own a set.

I already tried explaining this for the last 3 years , and all you get as a counter is "pipelines are safer than rail duh"

After a while you just give up

Maybe we should change topics to the PC leadership? I think we can all agree that took a turn for the worst. Harper looks pretty good now lol.

How about we send our oil east instead of buying Saudi oil, pipe in some baken from saskatchewan along the way to the east coast refineries. The same Libtards that don't want a pipeline to the east preach about gender equality while supporting countries that treat their women like second class citizens.

Shh don't talk about realities here, this is all philosophy at this point. Real issues aren't real issues anymore. More people will vote on whether or not someone can use a bathroom than will vote on a solid economic compromise policy.

The west coast is getting safer from tar sands oil by the minute.

Federal NEB pipeline and federal government already made their minds up and approved it. Now we sit back and see if JT has big enough gonads to stand behind his decisions and tells the province it's not their call, cause it's not.

Sad but true. Trudy needs his votes in a few years in BC so he'll likely take their side.
