I'm not from Newfoundland but I did serve with a few Newfies in the Navy, hilarious seeing them and the Cape Bretoners going at it,
    practical jokes were good.
One of my good friends is back in his hometown of St Johns working for a shipping company

Of Newfoundland heritage. My paternal grandparents were economic migrants in the early 1950's, from Clarenville - one of the branches of the Strong family, marrying a Squires... I've only been to Newfoundland once, in 1977.. but the memories are still vivid. Having done the family geneology, i have and feel more connections to and with my Father's birthplace, than with my own province at present. Might end up retiring on the east coast, inside of the next 15 years.

The TRD Pro in Canada is a joke. It's 10K more than a base ZR2 and 2K more than a loaded Diesel ZR2. Toyota knows their fanbase though. They know they can sell every TRD Pro they make at what they're asking.

Agree with you there, but 57G plus tax, thats nuts. You could build such a sick truck for 60 plus grand

Supply and demand. Until buyers stop buying TRD Pros in Canada at those prices, they'll keep selling at those prices. The worst part is that at those costs Toyota is also asking 5% interest for 5 year loans. Given those sort of trucks are usually sold to younger people they always finance over long terms. A 57K truck ends up being 70K.

Painful! After driving around the I'm lot going to keep my truck for a few more years, unless something really good comes out in 2019

Since this thread is so quiet lately and I need a vent, has anyone else caught the news that another meth head was shot stealing property on a farm? When is something going to be done to protect rural residents in the Prairies since criminals and drug addicts have learned that the RCMP don't respond quickly to break ins? Don't believe the media release dribble either claiming response times under twenty minutes. I have multiple friends and customers that have seen the RCMP never respond to someone entering their property and rifling through their stuff. The powers that be have had 3-4 emergency meetings about this at the provincial level yet nothing has been done. I guess until enough people die that the media demands change beyond symbolic gestures that don't even address the real issues, nothing will change.

Although police response sucks for rural people, grabbing a gun when your life is not directly threatened is not the most ideal reaction. Its not worth going to jail to defend material items with a gun.

The problem is that a lot of the thieves as of late have been heavy drug users. Check the news, it's a minor mention but it's in nearly everyone of these thefts. Simply asking them to leave can result in them assaulting you in their diminished mental state. It's nearly impossible to stop someone on Meth from hurting you without almost killing them, they literally feel no pain. I think that most people don't realize this. It's not as simple as asking them to go away. Simply getting in their way in any manner, even stopping them from coming in the house where your family is, is just asking for a very negative income for your family.

Honestly, I'd rather kill a thief and know my family will be fine rather than risk having them do anything to my daughters. I don't want to gamble the RCMP may show up in somewhere between 20 minutes and never while my family and property are at risk.

This can all be fixed with either the Castle Doctrine being implemented or more officers being place at RCMP detachments who specifically are there for rural crime response. Either or I'm fine with.

For sure drugs are a major reason why people steal, I just dont see shooting another person as the answer. Bear spray, cattle prod, brake cleaner in the eyes, chain saw, fuck run them over with your car but just grabbing a gun with the intent to kill is not how a society should function.

Good point on the bear spray. Less than lethal would be fine but the “reasonable force” explanation in our criminal code still needs to be better defined in order to allow for that. A man in Thunder Bay was jailed for a year for chasing off some indigenous teens by firing a shot gun far over their heads and threatening them with a bat.

In Canada the courts have ruled that you can never use a gun to defend yourself or your property even though we have a “reasonable force” exemption in the legal code.

Like I said, one court ruled that a man couldn't fire a shot gun over the heads of some teens who were ransacking his shed and had a few thousand dollars worth of his tools in their vehicle. Unfortunately in Canada it seems like the thieves have more rights than the actual victims.

Bold. The news is pushing for the victim in most of these cases. Most of the "victims" are previously convicted felons with criminal records but get portrayed as the poor natives who've had it so hard. But that doesn't matter when there is an anti gun agenda being pushed.

Yeah, the one case is Saskatchewan involving Indigenous youth is completely political to the point where it’s sickening. I still can’t believe some people are trying to use that for votes and media attention when a court determined the suspect never meant to actually shoot at the supposed victim. The fact his group had raided several properties in the local area was also concerning but never mentioned by the press which is sickening.
