I have a new 3rd gen and my only complaints are the trans seems a bit clunky, i imagine the shifts are calculated for fuel economy and it gets awesome mileage, 10l/100km on highway with big KO2s. i would have loved a stick DCLB OR but its not available in Canada. everything else about it is awesome.

I ll add as well that I enjoy my third Gen

I’ve had two second gens and my 16 is great
I have no concerns of reliability
The engine runs both cycles which no other car maker does// that I know
    Resale I’m confident will stay

My only concern is what this forum has caused me.... but gets out weighed by the help fullness and other comments

If the OP thinks buying a 2nd gen will be a trouble free and more reliable than the 3rd gen he's mislead. Some issues with the 2nd gens are 1) rear axle howl 2) torque converter failures 3) parking brake cable end rot 4) AC compressor failure 5) window regulator bolts loosening off 6) lower ball joints 7) rear axle seal failure 8) steering intermediate shaft siezing 9) secondary air injection pump failure 10) rear leaf spring failure 11) rattle in centre of dash. These are all known problems with the 2nd gen. If you keep reading TW or any forum you'll be catching the bus to get to work.

I had my 2006 Taco for 10 yrs and the ONLY thing in your list that I did not like was the leaf springs..... Toyota never addressed the issue during MY ownership, so I just added 1 extra leaf from a spring shop and that truck was 100%, except for an alternator failure over 120,000 kms....

It was a great truck....brought me big value on trade also.........

The 16 is way more gooder cuz of the electronic shit that updates her to the 21st century.!!

OP... Buy a new one.... forget the OLD trucks...

I had a second gen for 10 years and it had the leaf spring failure and rear axle howl. Otherwise pretty reliable. Have had my third gen for a couple months now and love it. Much better and more refined in every way. The engine gets up and goes if you put your foot into it. No complaints so far, much better gas mileage too!

Damn...you is right.... I went out to B.C. this summer and back....8,000 + KMS.... I averaged 26.5 CDN MPG.... Got as high as 28.9 MPG as well...(on the Montana flats)...

My 2006 would get mostly about 20 PMG CDN. (on the best day)..

NO, I did not.... It was supposed to be raining Cats and Dogs, and I had a commitment.... Looks like after a small rain last nite, they had a nice day... we had sun here, and still do..... I think It'll get really wet later on this evening and right thru till Monday...

Hope they had a great time...

Saw 1 pic from the guys... looks like a bunch of them made it and it was NOT raining in the pic....

I think most will be heading out this evening...!!

Yeah I hear ya, definitely getting much better mileage with my 2017 and it seems to be going up more as it breaks in. Although, winter gas is now here so that might put an end to that for a bit.

Damn, that looks identical to the .357 I sold last month.. Really, it was a 66-1 Stainless.......
Didn't want to put it the truck this winter.. hehe.
